Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced today that they are teaming with WINK-TV for their 1st ever Hurricane Preparedness Night this Saturday June 2nd.

WINK-TV Meteorologist Brian Monahan will be at Germain Arena to distribute WINK's SkyTracker Hurricane Survival Guide to all fans in attendance. The 60 page guide is full of information about how to prepare and what to do if a storm hits the area including important phone numbers. In the past the guide has proven to be an invaluable source for information before and after the storms.

"The guide our team at WINK has put together makes sure you know everything about the dangers of storms and what to do to be ready," says Brian Monahan, WINK NEWS SkyTracker Meteorologist. "I'm sure we're all hoping for a quiet storm season, but we need to be prepared."

In 2004 Germain Arena served as a hurricane shelter to families displaced by Hurricane Charley, in 2005 the arena was used as a shelter during Hurricane Wilma. Southwest Floridians received a break in 2006 with only 2 named storms making landfall in the U.S.

"For the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration scientists predict 13 to 17 named storms, with seven to 10 becoming hurricanes, of which three to five could become major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher," said retired Navy Vice Adm. Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Ph.D., undersecretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator. An average Atlantic hurricane season brings 11 named storms, with six becoming hurricanes, including two major hurricanes.

The Florida Firecats host the Alabama Steeldogs at home Saturday June 2nd. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm EST. Tickets are on sale now. Call the Firecats box office at 390-CATS (2287). Fans can listen to the game online at www.FloridaFirecats.com, www.NBC-2.com & www.ABC-7.com.
