ICYMI: Joey Meneses drove in a season high four runs, both Stephen Gaylor and Omar Obregon had three hits, Raymar Navarro pitched through the fifth and Chase Johnson-Mullins earned his seventh save as the Mudcats defeated the Dash 7-4 in front of a crowd of 4,834 on Saturday night at Five County Stadium.
ABOUT THE LAST ONE: The Mudcats totaled 13 hits and were 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position last night. Stephen Gaylor was 3-for-5, Omar Obregon was 3-for-4, Keith Curcio was 2-for-3 and Joey Meneses was 3-for-5 in the victory. Those four combined for 11 of Carolina's 13 hits and batted one through four respectively in the lineup. Last night marked the second time this season that each of the first four hitters in the Mudcats' lineup had at least two hits in a game and the second time that the first four combined for 11 hits in a game. The first four (Curcio, Reed Harper, Dansby Swanson and Jordan Edgerton) did the same (each with at least two hits in a game and totaling 11 combined hits) on April 12 in a 15-4 victory in Wilmington.
ON TO THE NEXT ONE: The Mudcats conclude a four game home stand today with the finale of a four game series against the visiting Winston-Salem Dash at Five County Stadium. Carolina has played just one other series against the Dash this season and enters today's game at 3-3 against Winston-Salem in 2016. Both teams have been eliminated from first half championship contention and currently sit at the bottom of the Carolina League Southern Division standings. The Mudcats moved back into third place with Friday's 3-1 victory against Winston-Salem. Carolina is 25-34 and currently sit a game and a half game ahead of the Dash (25-37) in the standings.
STARTING OFF: Matt Withrow starts for the Mudcats in today's series finale against the Dash. Withrow is 4-4 this season and has pitched to a 3.47 ERA over 10 starts and 46.2 innings pitched. Opponents are batting just .208 against Withrow, but have also managed to hit six home runs against him this season. Withrow won his third straight start his last time out after allowing just one run on four hits over five innings pitched on 6/6 in Frederick. He is 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA over his last three starts and has has struck out 20 batters over his last 16.0 IP.
Today's game begins at 2:00 p.m. at Five County Stadium and will air on the Mudcats Radio Network with the pregame show beginning at 1:45 p.m.
