Frederick Keys News Release

Woodbridge, VA - Frederick utilized solo home runs from Wynston Sawyer and Conor Bierfeldt and a game-winning two-run double by Jomar Reyes to defeat Potomac 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Pfitzner Stadium. The Keys took four of the five games in the series and hold sole possession of second place for the first time this season.

After losing the lead in the fourth, Frederick scored the final two runs of the game in the sixth. Potomac starter Luis Reyes (3-6) got a groundout, issued a one-out walk to Sawyer, and struck out Aderlin Rodriguez for the second out. Bierfeldt followed with a single up the middle to send Sawyer to third. Reyes then attacked the initial pitch and dunked a ball into center that plated Sawyer and Bierfeldt for a 4-3 Keys lead.

The orange and black scored in the first inning on Sawyer's sixth home run of the year. On a 2-2 pitch, Sawyer launched a ball over the right field wall for a 1-0 advantage. Bierfeldt tagged his sixth long shot of the year in the fourth against Reyes to make it 2-0. All four Frederick runs scored with two outs.

Trevor Belicek started for the Keys and tossed four innings. He left the bases loaded in the second, but the howling wind didn't aid his cause in the fourth. After Alec Keller grounded out to kick off the inning, Bryan Mejia flied a ball to left that found grass due to Cam Kneeland misplaying it for a two-base error. Mejia stole third, and then Reyes committed an error on a David Masters ground ball to make it 2-1.

Dale Carey knocked a single to put two runners on base. With two outs, Osvaldo Abreu stepped in and lifted a ball to left field that dropped with help from the wind for a two-run double and 3-2 Potomac edge. All three runs were unearned to Belicek, who gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out three in a no-decision.

Tanner Chleboard (1-2) pitched into the seventh, where he would run into trouble. He issued a leadoff walk to Abreu and a one-out single to Raudy Read. Tanner Scott was summoned from the bullpen and got the final two outs to strand two runners.

Scott would need someone to rescue him as well. In the eighth, the lefty issued walks to Masters and Carey with one away. Stevenson bounced out to put two in scoring position, and Michael Zouzalik made a move to the mound. Zouzalik (7) whiffed Abreu to keep two more on base. Potomac went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base.

The Keys have a chance to improve to two games over .500 for the first time this season with a win tomorrow at Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans and Keys open up a three-game series Monday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Lucas Long (3-4, 4.17) is on the mound for the Keys against Myrtle Beach RHP Erick Leal (8-2, 3.29). The broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com.
