Last time out...
The Freedom lost 3-1 to River City on Independence Day at UC Health Stadium. River City used a three run seventh inning to come back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Florence. River City starter Tim Koons (6-0) tossed a complete game four-hitter, walking one and striking out nine. Florence took an early lead. Kyle Carter singled with one out in the first. Collins Cuthrell walked to put runners on first and second. Andrew Godbold doubled to drive in Carter and give the Freedom a 1-0 lead after one. Godbold went one for four with an RBI. Freedom starter Tony Vocca threw four innings of shutout baseball and struck out two in his third start of the season. Seth Harvey (1-2) pitched the seventh inning and allowed three runs to pick up the loss. All three runs in the seventh for River City came with two outs as Johnny Morales singled home a run to tie the game and Harvey walked in the go-ahead run. Another single tacked on an insurance run for the Rascals.
For Starters...
Chuck Weaver is looking for his first win since May 21, when he beat the Frontier Greys by going eight shutout innings, striking out a career-high 11 batters and earning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week honors. In his six starts since then, Weaver has picked up five no-decisions and a loss. He faced River City on June 9, going five and two thirds innings, allowing four runs, two of them earned, on 10 hits in a no-decision as the Freedom won 11-4. The Freedom are 5-3 in Weaver's eight starts, including a 7-6 win in his most recent outing on June 30 against Rockford. Weaver went five and a third innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits in the no-decision. Weaver shined in 2014 as he earned a spot on the Mid-Season All-Star Team and finished the season with a 2.65 ERA, good for first on the team and fifth in the Frontier League. His notable outings included a career high eight innings of one-run ball against Southern Illinois on June 14, seven innings of one run ball on June 28 against River City, seven innings of shutout ball against Gateway on July 3 and seven innings of shutout ball against Traverse City on August 13. In 17 starts, Weaver went six or more innings 13 times. Weaver was signed by the Freedom in June 2013 after he finished up his collegiate career at IPFW. He had a solid rookie season, posting a 4-2 record with a 3.70 ERA in 14 appearances, 12 starts. The Ft. Wayne, Ind. native started 13 games as a senior for the Mastadons, posting a 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA. Weaver threw two complete games as a senior and pitched 70.2 innings. He played two years for IPFW after transferring from Vincennes University where he was named to the NJCAA All-Academic team.
Going for the series win...
If the Freedom win tonight it would be their first home series win since they took two of three from the Frontier Greys May 19-21. A win would also mark their third straight series win. The Freedom have not won more than two consecutive series so far in 2015.
Five or more...
When the Freedom score five or more runs in a game they have a record of 16-3, compared to a record of 3-22 when scoring fewer than five runs.
Getting on the board...
When the Freedom are able to score first in a game this season they have a record of 13-7, compared to a 6-18 mark when the other team scores first.
Walk it out...
The Freedom have drawn 172 walks, tied for the most in the league.
Run this way...
The Freedom's 83 stolen bases this season are the most in the Frontier League. However they have also been caught stealing 30 times, the most in the league as well.
Glovework...
The Freedom have the best fielding percentage in the league at .983.
Military Jersey Change...
Tonight only RHP Seth Harvey will be wearing #42. All other jersey numbers remain the same. The Freedom's Military Appreciation Night jerseys are being auctioned off to benefit the Bluegrass Military Affairs Coalition's KY Wounded Warriors Program.
