Rascals Carried to Victory by Koons' Complete Game

Florence, KY - The Rascals (23-20) snapped their five-game skid with a 3-1 win over the Florence Freedom (19-25) on Saturday, July 4 at UC Health Stadium.
RHP Tim Koons (W, 6-0) tossed a complete game and earned the victory for fifth straight start. He is the first Rascals pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game this season; RHP Dane Stone tossed a seven-inning complete game on May 31 at Schaumburg. Koons allowed just one run, four hits, and one walk. He matched a career-high with nine strikeouts.
Florence scored their only run in the first inning. Kyle Carter singled, and Collins Cuthrill walked with one out. Andrew Godbold then doubled home Carter and took a 1-0 lead.
The Rascals took the lead in the seventh inning. RF Jackson Slaid drew a leadoff walk and advanced on a bunt. Then with two outs SS Johnny Morales singled to score Slaid and tie the game 1-1. C Josh Ludy singled, and DH Danny Canela walked to load the bases. 3B Taylor Ard brought home the go-ahead run on a walk, and 2B Hector Crespo knocked in another run with a single to left.
Florence starter Tony Vocca tossed 4.0 scoreless innings. Seth Harvey (L, 1-2) surrendered all three Rascals runs and took the loss.
The Rascals and Florence Freedom conclude their series on Sunday, July 5 at UC Health Stadium at 6:05 p.m. EST.
