After Izzy reached on a single, he came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Elih Marrero and Portland led, 1-0. The Yard Goats tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. Isaac Collins clubbed his fourth homer of the year off Sea Dogs starter Rich Hill and the game was tied, 1-1. Portland would then put up a crooked number in the top of the fourth inning. Elih Marrero, David Hamilton, Ceddanne Rafaela, Christian Arroyo, and Hudson Potts would combine for five RBI singles and the Sea Dogs led, 6-1. In the top of the seventh inning, Koss reached on a lead-off single to left field then scored on an RBI single by Wilson and Portland continued to lead, 7-1. The Yard Goats attempted to stage a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning. Daniel Cope and Tyler Hill blasted back-to-back homers to make it 7-3. Christopher Navarro then scored on an RBI infield single by Michael Toglia and the Yard Goats continued to trail, 7-4. In the top of the ninth inning, Christian Koss recorded his third hit of the night, a double to left field then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Stephen Scott then drew a walk to join him on the basepath. Wilson hit a groundout to first base, allowing Koss to score and Portland extended their lead, 8-4. Tyler Dearden then blasted a two-run homer to right field, his second of the series, and the Sea Dogs rode the 10-4 lead to their second win of the series.
JULY POWER-UP - Tyler Dearden has performed well over the first three games in Hartford this series, leading to his most powerful month of the season. Dearden has homered in back-to-back games, both wins for the Sea Dogs, bringing his season total to five. The two blasts in this series also add to his July numbers, where he has hit three long balls. It easily becomes his best showing of strength, passing April and June where he hit one round-tripper apiece.
THREE'S COMPANY - Three players making MLB rehab appearances currently sit on Portland's roster, and each played in last night's game. LHP Rich Hill started for the Sea Dogs, tossing 3.0 innings while allowing one run on four hits while striking out five. RHP Matt Barnes entered from the bullpen, working through another perfect inning with two strikeouts, improving his line to 2.0 innings with one hit and four strikeouts over the last two games with Portland. INF/OF Christian Arroyo went 1-for-3, increasing his average to .500 in the last two games for the Sea Dogs.
STEALING ALL SUMMER - In Thursday's win over Hartford, David Hamilton swiped two bags, increasing his league-leading total to 47 stolen bases. Over the season, he has stolen more bases than the entire Harrisburg Senators team (45). Looking specifically at the second half, his 19 steals in July are his most of any month this year. Hamilton has played 19 of the 24 games in the second half for the Sea Dogs, stealing 22 bases over that span. That is more than Binghamton (6), Harrisburg (7), Bowie (11), Richmond (14), New Hampshire (15), and Akron (15).
THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - July 29, 2008 - Jorge Jimenez snapped a 7-7 tie with a 2-run homer in the top of the 10th inning, leading the Sea Dogs to an 11-7 win over the Fisher Cats on Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Beau Vaughan retired all four batters to earn his second win of the season. Josh Reddick added the finishing touch with a 2-run shot off Jo Matumoto with two outs in the 10th.
PITCHING MATCHUP - RHP Dylan Spacke is set to make the start Friday in Hartford. Mainly a reliever over the season, this is the fifth start for him this year. Overall for the season, Spacke has put up a 1-4 record and a 6.45 ERA. Over his four spot starts, Spacke has accumulated a 3.29 ERA, working through 13.2 innings while allowing five runs on 16 hits, striking out nine, and walking four. His first start of the year came in Hartford against the Yard Goats where he hurled 3.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, two walks, and struck out two in a no-decision.
