Summary
Daniel Schneemann's clutch RBI hit and six innings of one-run ball from the bullpen lifts the Akron RubberDucks over the Harrisburg Senators 2-1 on Friday night at Canal Park. Cleveland Guardians outfielder Oscar Gonzalez went 0-for-2 and reached on an error in his third rehab appearance with Akron.
Turning Point
Following walks to George Valera and Micah Pries gave the RubberDucks their best threat of the night with two outs in the eighth. Daniel Schneemann followed with an RBI single bringing Valera home before a throwing error on the play by the Senator right fielder scored Pries to give Akron a 2-0 lead.
Mound Presence
Gavin Williams started the game for Akron and after a leadoff single, retired the next five in a row. Williams exited the game early after being hit with a comebacker in the fourth. Carlos Vargas entered and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases before striking out the next three to escape the jam. In total, Vargas tossed two scoreless innings striking out three. Kyle Marman followed with a scoreless inning. Cade Smith tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Robert Broom allowed one run in the ninth to pick up the save.
Duck Tales
Akron's offense was held in check by Harrisburg starter Luis Reyes for most of the game. After Jose Tena opened the game with a single, the RubberDucks did not pick up another hit until Tena started the seventh with a single. Oscar Gonzalez is now 1-for-7 with two runs scored, a single and a walk in three rehab appearances as the right fielder for the RubberDucks.
