Reyes Outstanding in Tough Luck 2-1 Loss
July 29, 2022 - Eastern League (EL)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators fell to the Akron RubberDucks 2-1 Friday night in Akron. Luis Reyes started and went 7.2 innings, allowing two runs with two outs in the eighth before being lifted. Harrisburg rallied with two outs to score a run in the ninth and had the tying run at second base when the game ended. The teams have split the first four games of the series.
Reyes allowed two hits and a batter reached on an error in the first seven innings but because of two double plays and a caught stealing, he had faced the minimum batters through seven. With one out in the eighth, he allowed a four-pitch walk. With two outs, he fell behind 3-0 on a wild pitch that moved the go ahead run to second base. On the 3-0 count, the Sens opted for an intentional walk. The next batter singled in a run and a run scored on an error on the play. Brian Gonzalez came on and retired the final batter on a pop up.
In the ninth trailing 2-0 with two outs, Brady Lindsly doubled and was driven in on a single by Gilbert Lara which cut the Akron lead in half at 2-1. Jack Dunn and Rudy Martin both had two hits for the Senators. Harrisburg loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth and didn't score and had runners at first and second with no outs in the fifth but didn't score. The Sens went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Harrisburg committed two errors for the first time since June 23 in a game in Akron. Reyes is the second pitcher for the Sens to pitch into the eighth inning this season. Franklyn Kilome pitched eight complete innings on July 9 vs. Erie. With the terrific start by Reyes, the Senators starting pitchers have a 2.59 ERA in their past seven games since the four-day midseason break.
