THEY DID IT AGAIN -The Portland Sea Dogs walked it off for the second-straight night against the Harrisburg Senators. The Washington Nationals affiliate led 2-0 after the second inning, but the Sea Dogs took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the seventh inning. Leading 4-2, the Senators tied the game in the top of the ninth inning. KJ Harrison and Alu reached on back-to-back singles then came around to score on a two-run double by Gilbert Lara. The game was tied, 4-4. In the bottom of the ninth, after a leadoff single by Devlin Granberg, Tyreque Reed crushed a walk-off two run homer to centerfield and the Red Snappers won, 6-4.
FIRST DOUBLE-A HOME RUN - Tyreque Reed's walk-off home run to centerfield last night was his first at the Double-A level. In 2019 in the Texas Rangers organization, Reed blasted 18 home runs between three levels. He had never played higher than High-A until the 2021 season.
SALE RETURNS - LHP Chris Sale is schedule to pitch this afternoon for the Portland Sea Dogs. The All-Star and World Series Champion last pitched on Tuesday in a 6-3 victory over the Senators. He tossed 3.0 innings scoreless and hitless innings allowing one walk with six strikeouts. Sale pitched 49 pitches, 34 for strikes.
SEA DOGS STILL ON TOP - The Sea Dogs have now won back-to-back games and sit atop the Northeast League standings with a 44-24 record. The Akron RubberDucks are 2.5 games behind Portland while the Somerset Patriots have fallen to third place, 3.0 games behind the Sea Dogs. The top two teams in the league will qualify for a best-of-five-game championship series that will take place the week of September 20th.
CASTELLANOS STAYS HOT - Pedro Castellanos is currently riding a twelve-game hitting streak for the Sea Dogs. During that time, he is batting .340 (16-for-47) with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. He has a .396 on-base percentage and a .553 slugging percentage. Three of his twelve games have been multi-hit games.
ON THE MOUND - Chris Sale is scheduled to make his second rehab appearance for the Sea Dogs this afternoon. A seven-time All-Star and World Series Champion, Sale was acquired by the Red Sox via a trade with the Chicago White Sox 12/6/2016 for four minor league players. Sale has led the American League in strikeouts in two season (2015 and 2017) and reached 2,000 strikeouts in the fewest amount of innings (1626.0 innings).
