Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE FREEDOM (25-28) @ TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS (32-19)

Sunday, July 19, 2015 - 5:05 p.m. ET

Wuerfel Park - Traverse City, MI

Game #54 - Road Game #24 (25-28), (12-11)

RHP #32 Jeremy Gooding (3-2, 2.61 ERA) vs. RHP #22 Kramer Champlin (5-3, 1.90 ERA)

Last time out...

The Freedom and Beach Bums entered the 8th inning tied at one on Saturday but Traverse City scored three times in the eighth to prevail by a final score of 4-1. Yazy Arbelo homered in the second inning for Traverse City while Collins Cuthrell went deep for the Freedom to even the game at one in the seventh. But it all came undone in the eighth for the Freedom. With one out and nobody on, Jeff DeBlieux worked an 11-pitch walk. It was the only walk of the game allowed by Chuck Weaver (3-2) but it was a big one. DeBlieux promptly stole second and Alex Tomasovich singled him home to put Traverse City up 2-1. Jose Vargas followed with a single of his own to put runners at the corners with one out. That was it for Weaver as Seth Harvey came in for Florence. Harvey struck out Brandon Jacobs but allowed back-to-back RBI singles to Reggie Lawson and Arbelo to put Traverse City up 4-1. Weaver's only losses this year have come vs. the Beach Bums.

For Starters...

Jeremy Gooding is coming off a win over the Schaumburg Boomers on July 12 as he went six and two thirds innings, scattering seven hits, and only allowing two runs. Gooding walked two and struck out four in the 12-3 win. In Gooding's two losses this season the Freedom have scored a combined one run. In his three wins they have scored a combined 31 runs. The 24 year old went to school at Madonna University in Michigan. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. He also pitched with Amarillo of the American Association in 2014 and compiled a record of 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 8 starts between the two organizations. He struck out 56 batters in 55.2 innings and tossed two complete games with one shutout.

Rubber Match...

Tonight is the "rubber match" of the three-game series between the Freedom and Beach Bums as the teams have split the first two games. Florence is 4-4 in rubber matches this season.

Problem innings...

The two innings that have hurt the Freedom all year are the 2nd inning and the 5th inning. Florence is getting out-scored 30-14 in the second inning and 52-30 in the fifth inning.

Fun Fact...

Freedom DH Kyle Carter led Columbus, GA to the 2006 Little League World Series title over Japan as a pitcher.

Road Warriors...

The Freedom have won four consecutive road series, including a sweep of the Schaumburg Boomers before the All-Star break. They have a winning record at 12-11 away from home. A win tonight would mark their fifth consecutive road series victory.

Get those hits...

The Freedom have a record of 16-3 when they out-hit the opponent.

On the mound...

The Freedom's team ERA continues to go down each month. In May the Freedom had an ERA of 5.61. In June they had an ERA of 4.31. So far in July their ERA is a sparkling 2.73.

Here's the situation...

Collins Cuthrell is hitting .395 in 38 at bats with runners in scoring position. Surprisingly, All-Star Sam Eberle is only hitting .204 with runners in scoring position this season.

Five or more runs...

When the Freedom score five or more runs in a game they have a record of 19-3 in 2015.

After six innings...

The Freedom hold a record of 23-6 so far this season when tied or leading after six innings of play.

Run this way...

The Freedom's 93 stolen bases this season are the most in the Frontier League. However they have also been caught stealing 37 times, the most in the league as well. River City set the Frontier League record for steals in a season back in 2004 with 185.

Glovework...

The Freedom's fielding percentage of .982 is the best in the Frontier League.
