Washington Falls to Normal in 11th Inning

WASHINGTON, PA - The Washington Wild Things fell in extra innings against the Normal CornBelters Sunday by a score of 5-4. Tim Giel (2-5) was charged with the mound loss while Race Parmenter improved to (2-1) with the victory.

The CornBelters (31-23) got out to an early lead in the first on a pair of RBI singles by both Aaron Dudley and Sam Judah to give the Belters a 2-0 lead. A single and stolen base by infielder Sam Mende threatened to cut the lead in half, but the Wild Things were unable to bring the runner home.

Washington (24-30) showed their resilience in the third inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-2 lead. First baseman Sam Mende began the scoring with an RBI single, driving in Danny Poma to cut the lead in half. Matt Peters also scored for the Wild Things to tie the game at 2 until a two run blast by CJ Beatty gave Washington the 4-2 lead.

Normal added another run in the sixth on a single from former Wild Thing Jim Vahalik, plating Kyle McHugh. The score remained 4-3 heading into the top of the ninth.

The CornBelters managed to tie the game at four on a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Aaron Wright. Normal went on to completed the comeback in the top of the 11th when third baseman Richard Lucas belted an RBI double to center field to give the Cornbelters the 5-4 lead.
