FLORENCE FREEDOM (23-27) @ SCHAUMBURG BOOMERS (22-28)

Sunday, July 12, 2015 - 2:00 p.m. ET

Boomers Stadium - Schaumburg, IL

Game #51 - Road Game #21 (23-27), (10-10)

RHP #32 Jeremy Gooding (2-2, 2.59 ERA) vs. LHP #34 Scotty Ward (1-1, 3.46 ERA)

Last time out...

The Freedom rallied from five runs down to win by a final score of 7-5 Saturday night over the Boomers. Schaumburg scored two in the second and three runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. But in the fourth the Freedom got a RBI single from Kyle Carter and a RBI single from Justin Harris to cut the deficit to 5-2. In the fifth inning Andrew Godbold drilled a three-run home run to dead center to tie the game at five. Then in the eighth all-star Daniel Fraga singled home a run to give Florence the lead. Collins Cuthrell provided some insurance with a solo home run in the ninth inning. Florence's bullpen threw five and a third innings of shutout baseball after Ryan Davis finished with 3.2 innings of work. Zach Wendorf shut Schaumburg down for two innings. Pete Levitt got a huge strike out to end the sixth. Seth Harvey (2-2) pitched a scoreless seventh. Ethan Gibbons did his thing in the eighth and Ed Kohout picked up his 9th save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

For Starters...

Jeremy Gooding makes his sixth start of the season this afternoon for the Freedom. In his most recent start on July 8, Gooding went 2.2 innings, allowing only one walk, not hits, and striking out two against Evansville. But a rain delay of more than two hours ended his night. Gooding faced Schaumburg back on June 13 in his Freedom debut after being acquired from the Grand Prairie Air Hogs. He got the win, going five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, walking three and striking out four as Florence won 16-6. The 24 year old went to school at Madonna University in Michigan. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. He also pitched with Amarillo of the American Association in 2014 and compiled a record of 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 8 starts between the two organizations. He struck out 56 batters in 55.2 innings and tossed two complete games with one shutout.

Going for the sweep...

If the Freedom win tonight it will be their first road series sweep of an opponent since August 30-September 1 of 2013 against the Washington Wild Things. Florence has won 4 straight road series.

We're going streaking!

With a win tonight the Freedom would match their longest winning streak of the season at four games as they head into the All-Star break.

On the mound...

The Freedom's team ERA continues to go down each month. In May the Freedom had an ERA of 5.61. In June they had an ERA of 4.31. So far in July their ERA is a sparkling 2.71.

Catching up...

Freedom catcher Gaby Juarbe is a Frontier League All-Star with a .333 batting average, a pair of home runs and 17 RBI. But Freedom catcher Ozzy Gonzalez, a rookie out of Bellevue University, is also starting to produce for Florence. Over the past 10 games, Gonzalez is hitting .435 (10-23) with three runs scored and four RBI. Florence is 10-7 when Gonzalez starts.

Here's the situation...

Collins Cuthrell is hitting .412 in 34 at bats with runners in scoring position.

Five or more runs...

When the Freedom score five or more runs in a game they have a record of 18-3 in 2015.

After six innings...

The Freedom hold a record of 21-6 so far this season when tied or leading after six innings of play.

Hey now, you're an All-Star!

Gaby Juarbe will start at catcher for the East Division in the Frontier League All-Star Game on July 15 in Schaumburg. INF Daniel Fraga and INF Sam Eberle were also voted onto the team. East Division manager Dan Rohn selected Freedom hitting coach AJ Cicconi to join the All-Star staff.

Run this way...

The Freedom's 88 stolen bases this season are the most in the Frontier League. However they have also been caught stealing 34 times, the most in the league as well.

Glovework...

The Freedom's fielding percentage of .982 is tied for the best mark in the Frontier League.
