Rascals Lose to Even Series with Grizzlies

River City Rascals News Release


O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (25-24) fell 4-2 to the Gateway Grizzlies (17-32) on Saturday, July 11 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

LHP Lucas Laster (L, 0-2) made his fifth start for the Rascals and took his second straight loss. Laster, who tossed 8.2 innings at Gateway ealier this season, surrendered four runs over 7.1 innings. He struck out eight while allowing seven hits and one walk.

Grizzlies starter Tyler Thompson (W, 2-4) surrendered just two runs, one earned, over 6.0 innings of work. He allowed five hits and one walk and struck out five hitters. Brett Zawacki (S, 5) tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

Gateway took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Seth Heck walked, and Madison Beaird singled with two outs. Ben Waldrip then singled home Heck.

RF Jackson Slaid hit a solo homerun in the fifth frame, his fourth, to tie the game.

Blake Brown answered with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth.

DH Danny Canela then hit his own solo shot, his ninth, narrowing the deficit to 3-2.

The Grizzlies added an insurance run on a Waldrip double that scored Cody Livesay in the eighth inning.

RHP Zac Treece struck out one in 0.2 inning, and LHP Kyle Bouman faced the minimum in the ninth inning in his professional baseball debut out of LSU.

The Rascals and Gateway Grizzlies wrap up their series and end the first half of the season on Sunday, July 12 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 4:05 p.m. CDT.
