Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Cedar Rapids, IA - Corey Julks broke a scoreless tie with a two-run home run in the seventh inning and Parker Mushinski and Leovanny Rodriguez stymied the Cedar Rapids Kernels on the mound as the Quad Cities River Bandits came away with a 2-1 win at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday. The victory allowed the River Bandits to bounce back and win the series after dropping the first two games.

Neither team could find a way to score against the opposing starter. Parker Mushinski tossed 5.0 scoreless innings for the Bandits, allowing just one hit and striking out five while walking two. Cedar Rapids starter Bailey Ober went 6.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts. He allowed three hits.

The River Bandits broke through in the seventh inning against reliever Carlos Suniaga. Bryan De La Cruz worked a two out walk to reach base in front of Julks. The designated hitter ripped a fly ball to left field that evaded the glove of the leaping left fielder Shane Carrier to give the Bandits a 2-0 advantage.

Cedar Rapids scored their only run of the night off of reliever Leovanny Rodriguez in the eighth. Akil Badoo drew a one out walk and then moved to second base on Royce Lewis' grounder to second. Alex Kirilloff beat the shift with a roller through the left side of the infield to cut the River Bandits lead in half at 2-1. Rodriguez stranded the tying run at first in the bottom of the ninth to pick up the win in his debut with the team. He pitched 4.0 innings and surrendered two hits while walking one and striking out six.

The Bandits outhit the Kernels 5-3. Jake Meyers had a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

The River Bandits (22-17) will continue the road trip against the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field. The Bandits will send RHP Cesar Rosadao (2-2, 5.47) to the mound in the opener game of a three-game series. Beloit will counter with RHP Wyatt Marks (3-2, 2.40).
