
Lugnuts Top Dragons 4-1 to Complete Series Sweep

Lansing, Mich. - Lansing starting pitcher Turner Larkins and reliever Brody Rodning combined to scatter six hits as the Lugnuts defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-1 on Thursday night. The win was the ninth in a row for the Lugnuts as they completed a sweep of the four-game series with the Dragons. Dayton returns home hoping to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Lansing scored three runs with two outs in the third inning and added one more run in the seventh to close out the scoring. The Dragons were held scoreless until Stuart Fairchild delivered a two-out single in the ninth inning to allow them to avoid the shutout. Larkins and Rodning combined to allow only one runner past second base in the game.
Dragons starting pitcher Wendolyn Bautista worked six and one-third innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Bautista (2-2) was charged with the loss. Tyler Buffett followed Bautista and did not allow a hit or walk over one and two-thirds innings.
The Dragons had six hits by six different players. All six were singles. The limited offense marked a drop-off for the Dragons from the previous three games in the series, when they collected 31 hits including 12 extra base hits.
In the Standings: The Dragons are 18-19, in fourth place, seven and one-half games behind first place Lansing. The began the day on Thursday sitting four games behind second place Bowling Green, the wildcard leader, in the Midwest League East Division.
Up Next: The Dragons will play eight home games in seven days beginning with a doubleheader on Friday night at 7:00 against the Great Lakes Loons at Fifth Third Field. Both games will be seven-inning games. Hunter Greene will start game one on Friday for the Dragons while Tyler Mondile will be the second game starter.
