Juice Winning Streak Ends At Six

Aiken, SC- The Bradenton Juice went after its 7th consecutive win on Friday night but it was not meant to be as the Juice lost 6-3. Bradenton scored first but it could not hold on as Aiken scored 5 runs in the 5th inning en route to winning for the first time in the second half of the season.

The Juice got the scoring started in the 3rd inning with Zach Woodward leading off the inning with a double to left field and the next batter Rocky Collis hit a sacrifice bunt that moved Woodward to 3rd base. Luke Barganier followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Woodward putting the Juice up 1-0.

Bradenton added two runs in the 4th with Eddie Kim drawing a one-out walk and two batters later Nick Corbeil took a Steve Dunham pitch deep over the left field wall for his 5th homer brining home Kim giving the Juice a 3-0 advantage.

But the Foxhounds came back scoring 5 times in the Bottom of the 4th inning when they sent 11 batters to the plate. At one point Bradenton starting pitcher Rocky Collis allowed three consecutive walks before being relieved by Steve Alverson. The Foxhounds got 4 hits in the inning including a 2-run homer by Ben Bando.

Aiken tacked on another run in the next inning with Tim Sweeney leading off with a single and Josh Eachus following with another single. Two batters later Scott Houin hit an infield single and on the same play Sweeney scored on an error by Juice 3rd baseman Al Corbeil putting Aiken up 6-3.

Rocky Collis (2-5) took the loss for Bradenton going 3.2 innings, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 5 hits, walking 4 and striking out 5 batters. In his first start with Aiken Steve Dunham (4-5) pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (all earned) on 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2 batters. A.J. Montano pitched a perfect 9th for Aiken to pick up his 5th save.

Bradenton is now 4-1 in the second half of the season and 28-21 overall while Aiken is 1-3 in the second half and 23-26 overall.

The Juice go for the series win on Saturday night at 7:05 in Aiken as they will send LHP Lavelle Morgan to the mound.
