Anderson Joes News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - In a quintessentially exciting Joes game, Anderson fell behind early, came back late, and took another thrilling win for the books, beating the Charlotte County Redfish, 8-6, with the help of a five-run top of the ninth inning in front of 1,362 shocked fans at Charlotte County Sports Park on Saturday.

Joes manager Desi Wilson was ejected for the first time this season in the first inning, meaning he missed another memorable Anderson comeback.

Charlotte County took a 6-3 lead into the top of the ninth inning, having scored three runs on five hits in the first inning and putting a run across in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth. Wilson was ejected for arguing a safe call at home plate in the bottom of the first inning, leaving hitting coach Edgar Varela to run the team.

Under their interim skipper, the Joes began to rally.

A Richard Quihuis-Bell three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning tied the game at 3-3, but Charlotte County's late offensive barrage put Anderson in a hole.

The newly resilient Joes then began chipping away.

Two hits and two Redfish throwing errors combined to bring Anderson within one run, 6-5. Then, with Kevin Noles at third base and Blake Gailen at second, Billy Hogan entered as a pinch-hitter to face former Joes pitcher Aaron Easton.

With the infield drawn in, Hogan shot a single back up the middle past diving shortstop Jose Gutierrez, driving in both runs and making it 7-6 Joes.

For good measure, Anderson scored an insurance run later in the inning when Easton - attempting to intentionally walk Quihuis-Bell with runners at second and third - missed his catcher with a wild pitch and allowed Brandon Carter to score from third.

Tyler Addison entered in the bottom of the ninth and shut down the Redfish for the save, his second of the year.

Austin Redwine earned the win, improving to 2-0. Charlotte County closer Aristides Almenar blew his third save in a row, dropping to 2-2 with the loss.

Anderson returns home Sunday with a two-game winning streak in tow and looks to get closer to .500 in the second half of the year.

With the win, the Joes also improve to 5-4 against the Redfish this season, the only team they hold a winning record against.

This game marked just the second time all year the Joes trailed heading into the ninth inning and won, keeping company with Anderson's 6-5 win on June 30 against the Aiken Foxhounds.
