Anderson Joes News Release
MACON, Ga. -- A confusing afternoon led to an eventful evening, a tight game, and an eventual late-game loss for the Joes on Tuesday, as Anderson lost, 4-1, to the Macon Music at Luther Williams Field.
The game was tied for the majority of the contest, as the teams got off to matching scoreless starts through two-and-a-half innings. Macon quickly jumped out 1-0 in the third, thanks to a Dorian Rojas RBI single. Anderson (22-20, 35-52 overall) responded promptly, with a Heath Keel solo home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game.
Macon's three-run bottom of the eighth inning won the game for the Music, as they put the runs across on three hits and one Joes error. Anderson mounted a bases-loaded, one-out rally in the top of the ninth, but couldn't cash in on the opportunity. The win clinches the second-half league championship outright for Macon (28-14, 58-29 ).
Earlier, the day held a number of wild twists for Anderson.
The Joes originally planned on concluding Monday night's postponed game before playing a shortened game two. Macon changed the plan to just playing game two Tuesday and not concluding game one, before reverting to the original doubleheader plan upon Anderson's afternoon arrival at the park. Less than 20 minutes before game time, it was announced that the Music had decided to play only the scheduled Tuesday game, with a doubleheader set to close the season on Wednesday.
In the top half of the first inning, Joes starting second baseman Brandon Carter was ejected from the dugout after he struck out swinging in his first at-bat. Upon Carter's ejection, Joes manager Kash Beauchamp came down from the third base coach's box and proceeded to mix it up with home plate umpire Mike Cheek.
Beauchamp and Cheek proceeded to kick dirt on each other before they later simultaneously kicked dirt on home plate together. After Beauchamp was soon ejected, he bumped chests with Cheek, at which point Cheek shoved Beauchamp in the chest with his right arm. A few more heated minutes later and Beauchamp followed Carter out of the ballgame.
Blake Gailen started and took the loss for the Joes, dropping to 2-2 despite allowing just two runs, five hits and two walks through seven complete innings. Macon closer Cesar Herrera entered in a tie game and earned the win, improving to 5-1. Three of his wins this season have come against the Joes.
Tuesday, the teams will meet at 6:05 p.m. for a modified doubleheader.
Anderson and Macon will first play the remainder of Monday night's postponed game, which the Joes will enter leading 3-0 in the middle of the second inning. At the conclusion of game one, the Joes and Music will then play a seven-inning game to finish each of their regular seasons.
