August 28, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, were set to play a double-header Tuesday night. Rain caused game two not to take place but South Georgia won the first game 4-1 as Austin Weilep picked up his tenth win of the season.
The game began as a pitching duel as no runs were scored through the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, South Georgia picked up two runs on three hits. With one out, Mike Caruso doubled and then scored on a Desi Wilson double. Wilson would then come around to score when Jasha Balcom hit an RBI single.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Peanuts put up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Joey Hooft led the inning off with a double and Caruso then walked to put runners on first and second. Steve Butler hit an RBI single to score Hooft while Butler and Caruso ended up at second and third base on an error. After Bradenton starting pitcher Travis Kane was lifted from the game, Jasha Balcom hit an RBI single to score Caruso.
Pitching was very good for South Georgia. Ja Jones got his first start of the season and pitched five innings of scoreless ball. Austin Weilep picked up his tenth win of the season after pitching three innings allowing one run, which was not earned.
Hooft was the only Peanuts with more than one hit going 2-3 with a run scored. Caruso went 1-2 with two runs while Balcom went 2-3 with two RBI.
The Peanuts and Juice wrap up the regular season on Wednesday night at Paul Eames Park. First pitch is set for 7:10. Tickets are available by visiting the Peanuts box office or logging onto southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
