July 14, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN, S.C. - Tim Drew pitched eight effective innings, and Scott Houin and Ben Bando each homered as the Aiken Foxhounds (24-26, 2-3) won their first series since June 23, defeating the visiting Bradenton Juice (28-22, 4-2) 8-3 in the series finale Saturday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The 'Hounds had not won a series since winning two of three against Anderson from June 21-23.

The Juice got on the scoreboard first, plating a pair of runs in the top of the second. Brenan Herrera singled and stole second before scoring on Nick Corbeil's RBI single up the middle. Corbeil then came around to score on a two-out throwing error.

The score stayed 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the 'Hounds offense got started. Josh Eachues led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Drew then faked a bunt before singling up the middle to score Eachues. Houin followed with a long home run to left field to give Aiken a 3-2 lead.

One inning later, Bando added to the 'Hounds lead, drilling his second home run in as many days. Bando's seventh homer of the season increased the lead to 4-2.

Drew (3-3) cruised through the middle innings, putting five consecutive zeros on the scoreboard from the third to seventh innings.

In the eighth, Bradenton mounted a rally against Drew. Luke Barganier and Al Corbeil began the inning with back-to-back singles before an Eddie Kim fly ball to right moved Barganier to third. Mikela Olsen then drilled the first pitch he saw to deep right. Scott Houin moved back and made a leaping catch against the wall. Barganier scored on the play, but Houin's catch preserved the Foxhounds' lead at 4-3.

Drew left after eight innings after allowing just three runs, two earned, on eight hits while walking none and striking out five.

Aiken blew the game open in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four runs on three hits and benefiting from two Juice errors. Scott Houin had a two-RBI single, Garth McKinney had an RBI fielder's choice, and Chad Miller drove in a run in the frame with a single.

Bradenton starter Lavelle Morgan (4-4) was hit with the loss, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out four.

Houin had a 2-for-5 night at the plate with four RBI, Eachues went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Miller had two hits in five at-bats with an RBI.

Aiken returns to action Monday night when they host the South Georgia Peanuts at 7:05 PM at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
