Peanuts Come From Behind in Win

July 14, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, ended a 15-date home stand by beating the Macon Music 15-11. The win came in come from behind fashion as one point the Peanuts were down by seven runs.

Macon took a 2-0 lead during the top of the first inning. After Doyle retired the first two hitters of the game, Dorian Rojas doubled and Casey Garrison walked. Ismael Castro then came to the plate and ripped a double to score both runners on base.

South Georgia did get a run back in the bottom of the first. Jasha Balcom led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a Joey Hooft single. Balcom would then score on a wild pitch from Macon Starter Nick Utley.

The Music went on to score six innings in the top of the second. Ten batters came to the plate in a frame that featured only three hits but three walks as well. Doyle only recorded one out in the frame and all six runs were charged to him.

Utley was anything but commanding but found a way to get the job done. The Peanuts got a runner to third in bottom of the second but were not able to push him home. IN the bottom of the third, Joey Hooft led off with a single and then stole second. Hooft went on to score on a Nick Prosise double and then Goodwin pushed Prosise home with a single of his own. The Music answered South Georgia's two runs with a solo home run off the bat of Ismael Castro with two outs in the top of the fourth.

The Peanuts continued to work their way back into the game. In the bottom of the fifth, the team loaded the bases with one out. Brandon Woolard had a bloop single to shallow left to score Doc Brooks and Johnny Washington hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Prosise.

The Peanuts continued to inch closer in the sixth. Balcom led off the inning with a walk and then stole second and third which allowed him to score on a ground-out from Hooft. After Mike Caruso walked, Doc Brooks hit a home run to left to get the Peanuts within one.

South Georgia finally took the lead in the seventh scoring three more runs. The Peanuts then added even more in the eighth scoring four more runs as the team led 15-9 going into the top of the ninth. Macon did add two runs in the top of the ninth but it was not enough as South Georgia won 15-11.

The Macon pitchers gave up nine walks on the day which helped the comeback effort for the Peanuts. At the plate, Hooft went 3-6 with three runs and three RBI. Nick Prosise went 4-5 with two runs and three RBI. Doc Brooks went 2-4 with two runs and four RBI.

Jake Upwood got the win by pitching one third of an inning. Shannon Wirth and Mike Colacchio combined to pitch 5.1 innings allowing just one run. Ja Jones pitched the final two innings to get his fourth save of the year.
