The Story:

Tyson Jugnauth and Kyle Chyzowski each posted two goals as the Winterhawks routed the Everett Silvertips 8-2 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series.

Jan Špunar made 21 saves on 23 shots for his fifth straight win, while Tyler Palmer (23/29) and Ethan Chadwick (16/18) manned the net for Everett.

Jugnauth grabbed the game's first goal on a stellar solo effort, going coast to coast before tucking a shot under the bar at 2:38 of the first. Portland's other Tyson, Tyson Yaremko, then doubled the team's lead with a spinaround wrister from the high slot at 11:50. Josh Davies tacked on a third for the hosts 33 seconds later, and though a Tarin Smith tally put the Tips on the board, the Hawks hit period two with a 3-1 lead and plenty of momentum.

Another early Jugnauth strike, this time on a shorthanded 2-on-1 with James Stefan, made it 4-1 Hawks, and the rout was on. Chyzowski sandwiched an Everett goal from Parker Berge with two power-play goals of his own to make it 6-2 Portland heading into the third, where Nate Danielson and Jack O'Brien put the game well and truly to bed midway through the frame.

The puck drops for Game 2 of this series tomorrow night at the VMC at 6:00 P.M.
