LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Saturday that 2003-born defenceman Joe Arntsen has signed an American Hockey League contract with the Abbotsford Canucks.
Arntsen, 20, was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the second-round (35th overall) in the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft.
The Dinsmore, SK, product finished his junior career appearing in 268 regular season games with Lethbridge collecting 106 points (27g-79a) along with 321 penalty minutes. He totaled 24 points (6g-18a) along with 75 penalty minutes during the 2023-2024 regular season. Arntsen added five points (1g-4a) along with 11 penalty minutes in 12 career post-season games with the 'Canes.
The 6'3, 211-pound defenceman finished 10th all-time in games played in Hurricanes history (268) while finishing ninth all- time among rearguard scoring (106). Arntsen was named a two-time recipient of the Herman Elfring Community Relations Award winner (2023, 2024) and the Hurricanes Top Defenceman (2023) during his WHL career. He served as the 'Canes captain for three seasons, matching Brent Seabrook as the only three-year captain in Hurricanes history.
Arntsen will report to Abbotsford to join the Canucks for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
