Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Led by a second straight multi-goal outing from Kyle Chyzowski, the Winterhawks rode a four-goal first period to a 6-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips in Game 2 of their second-round playoff series.
Portland holds a 2-0 series lead as the series shifts to Everett and has won six consecutive contests to start the postseason.
After a hot start in Game 1, the Winterhawks followed a similar script to take control in Game 2 as Marek Alscher buried a rebound 7:25 into the contest. Chyzowski followed five minutes later with a cannon from the high slot to double the lead, but Beau Courtney quickly responded for the Silvertips to halve the lead. Chyzowski fired back with a power-play goal soon after for his second of the night, and Tyson Jugnauth potted Portland's fourth with a top-shelf snipe in the waning moments of the frame.
The scoring slowed down in the final 40 minutes, but Nate Danielson's bar-down blast in the second period and Carter Sotheran's late marker from range in the third ensured victory for the hosts. Jan Špunar was excellent once again with 32 saves on 33 shots, backstopping his and the team's sixth straight win.
Game 3 is set for Monday at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett at 7:05 P.M.
