WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Chicago White Sox have announced that Major League third baseman Josh Fields will begin a rehab assignment with the Winston-Salem Warthogs beginning on Friday, July 4.

Fields, the first round selection (18th overall) of the White Sox in 2004, played exclusively for Triple-A Charlotte this season hitting .251 with 8 home runs and 26 RBI in 46 games.

In his rookie season with the White Sox last year, the 25-year-old hit .244 with 23 home runs and drove in 67 runs en route to a seventh-place finish in the 2007 Rookie of the Year voting.

The 6-foot-1 infielder is no stranger to Ernie Shore Field, as he made his professional debut with Winston-Salem in 2004. That year, Fields hit at a .285 clip while smacking seven home runs and getting 39 RBI.

Fields is a native of Stillwater, Okla. and attended Oklahoma State University. While with the Cowboys, Fields was also a football star, quarterbacking the Cowboys to a 9-4 record in 2003 while passing for 2,494 yards and 21 touchdowns his junior year.
