
Joseph Joins The Hillcats

The Hillcats announced today that left-handed reliever Donnie Joseph will be joining the team after being promoted from Dayton (A). Joseph was 2-1 with six saves, a 0.78 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 19 appearances with the Dragons.
Joseph came into the season as the 21st Ranked Prospect in the Cincinnati Reds Organization according to Baseball America. He was drafted in the third round of the 2009 draft after spending three years at the University of Houston. He began the 2009 NCAA season as a mid-week starter for the Cougars, but quickly moved to the bullpen where he converted 10 saves. He threw 49 innings pitched and gave up only 12 earned runs, walked 22 and struck out 75. Opponents hit only .184 against him.
After getting drafted by the Reds, Joseph played 24 games in Billings and Dayton. With Billings (R) he threw 11.2 innings pitched in eight appearances and registered a 0.77 ERA. He struck out 11 and walked only four before being promoted to Dayton. In his first season with the Dragons, Joseph recorded four saves in 20.2 innings pitched. He went 2-2 with a 4.35 ERA and struck out 31 while walking 10. Joseph gave up a combined one run in all of his converted saves.
