THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg fell 2-1 to Myrtle Beach yesterday to give each team a win in this three-game series at BB&T Coastal Field...Tonight is the rubber match of a three-game set with the Pelicans and the final game of six in a row on the road for the Cats...Entering tonight they are 1-4 on this road swing...
VS. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats are 2-3 against the Pelicans this season...They went 12-8 against the Birds last season and were 7-4 at BB&T Coastal Field...Lynchburg's 10-3 win at Myrtle Beach last season on June 16th clinched the first half Northern Division Championship...Myrtle Beach has the all-time advantage in the series 121-104, and they are 64-50 on the Grand Strand...
SCRAPING THEM ACROSS: Yesterday Lynchburg and Myrtle Beach combined to score three runs and through the first two games of the series the have plated four runs total...The Hillcats and Pelicans are the two lowest scoring teams in the Carolina League...The Cats are seventh with 186 runs (four runs per game) and the Birds are last (3.5 runs per contest)...
YOU'RE RUBBER, I'M GLUE: This season the Hillcats are 1-4 in the deciding games of series this season and they are 1-12 in series finales...Lynchburg lost their only rubber match this year with Myrtle Beach, which was one of two series the Pelicans have won this season and their only road series victory of the season...
TIDE TURNER: After their series opening win against Myrtle Beach on May 7th, Lynchburg was 14-14, had won seven of their last nine game and had won three straight series...They lost the final two games of that set to the Pelicans and they have gone 4-14 since then...
DOESN'T ADD UP: Lynchburg is second in the league in batting average with a .273 clip this season...Despite that number, the Hillcats are second to last in the league in runs scored (186), only ahead of Myrtle Beach who is easily last in the circuit in batting average (.214)...The Cats are fifth in on-base percentage and last in the league in walks...
YOU'RE ALL WINNERS: The four starting pitchers in this series combined have averaged six and 2/3 innings of action per start with a 1.04 ERA (three earned runs in 26 innings)...RHP Mark Serrano allowed just two runs in seven innings of action (which matched the longest start by a Hillcat this season and his career-high) to take a tough-luck loss yesterday...RHP Randall Delgado allowed just one first inning run in seven innings of work, but ended up on the losing side as well on Tuesday night...The right-hander stuck out 12 and in two starts this season against Lynchburg he has allowed just two runs in 13 innings (1.39 ERA), but has not earned a win against the Cats...
FALLING INTO PLACE: OF Josh Fellhauer went 1-for-4 yesterday in the middle-game of the series with the Pelicans...On Saturday night he went 3-for-5 with three doubles, an RBI and a run...He has now hit in eight straight and 13 of his last 14 games, and over that time he is batting .386 (22-for-57) with five doubles, a homer, three RBI, 10 runs, three walks and two steals...He has raised his average from .255 to .296 in those 14 games...Fellhauer is tied for third in the Carolina League in doubles (16)...
BREAKING DOWN THE BOX: RHP Brad Boxberger pitched three and 2/3 innings on Sunday and allowed five runs (four earned) and took his fourth loss of the season...The first time through the line-up his struck-out six and only allowed a single...The second time through the order he didn't strike out a batter and six of the nine he faced reached safely (four of them had extra-base hits)...The right-hander began the season 3-1 with a 1.44 ERA (four earned runs in 25 innings) in his first five starts of the season, but since then he is 0-3 with a a 7.17 ERA (13 earned runs in 16 an 1/3 innings) in his last four starts...He has only gotten through five innings in one of those outings...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Matt Crim was selected by the Braves in the 21st round of last years draft out of The Citadel...His senior season in the Southern Conference he went 8-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 14 starts...He made his professional debut last year with Rookie Danville and had a 10-2 mark with a 3.18 ERA in 13 games (11 starts)...He led the Appalachian League in wins and was eighth in ERA...This season at the Advanced-A level he has gone 2-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 10 games (five starts) with Myrtle Beach...Tonight will be his first appearance against Lynchburg...
