SPRINGFIELD, MA - The American Hockey League announced today that Manchester Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 13, 2013.
Jones won three consecutive starts - all on the road - last week, making 87 saves on 91 shots (3-0-0, 1.27 goals-against-average, .956 save percentage) to propel the Monarchs to the top of the Eastern Conference.
On Wednesday night in Lewiston, Jones stopped 25-of-27 shots and four-of-five shootout attempts in Manchester's 3-2 win over Portland. On Friday, he made seven of his 24 saves during overtime to help the Monarchs to a 3-2 shootout victory at Providence. Finally, on Saturday, Jones made 38 saves for his 11th career shutout, a 3-0 decision in Bridgeport.
Jones, 23, is 3-0-1 so far in 2013-14 with a 1.41 goals-against-average and a .951 save percentage in four starts for the Monarchs. The fourth-year professional from North Vancouver, British Columbia, has collected a career record of 71-54-8 with a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage in 140 AHL appearances, all with Manchester.
