The Pawtucket Red Sox defeated the Gwinnett Braves 3-2 at McCoy Stadium on Thursday afternoon. Left fielder Mitch Jones had 3 doubles on the day, which ties him with catcher Clint Sammons for the most doubles in a game in G-Braves history. Sammons achieved the feat on June 3, 2009 against Rochester. Pawtucket clinched the series win with today's victory, as Gwinnett (15-18) now sits in second place in the International League South and 4.5 games behind Durham for first place. Pawtucket (15-19) is in fourth place and is 6 games behind Syracuse for first place.

It Was Over When: With the bases loaded in the top of the 9th inning, Sammons flied out to left field for the final out, sealing the victory for Pawtucket.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter Ryne Reynoso (0-5) allowed 3 R (2 ER) on 9 hits in his 6 innings of work. Reynoso is still winless after 8 starts for the G-Braves dating back to last season. Stephen Marek pitched 2 innings in which he gave up no hits.

At the plate: Jones went 3-for-4 with 3 doubles and a run scored. Jones leads the team in doubles (13) and is now second in the IL. Sammons (1-for-4) and Clevlen (1-for-2) both had an RBI each.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Kris Johnson (2-2) earned the victory by striking out 5 in 6.0 IP. Joe Nelson earned his first save of the season.

At the plate: Shortstop Niuman Romero went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Catcher Gustavo Molina 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

On Deck: Gwinnett hosts Lehigh Valley in game one of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. Braves LHP Jo-Jo Reyes of the Atlanta Braves is scheduled to start for Gwinnett on an MLB rehab assignment - to be followed by regular starter, RHP Tim Gustafson. Gwinnett is scheduled to face LHP Joe Savery (0-2, 5.00 ERA) of the IronPigs.
