Published on May 13, 2010 under International League (IL1) News Release
BUFFALO BISONS www.Bisons.com
HOT TEJADA: Twenty-year old INF Ruben Tejada is fitting in quite well with the Bisons. The young shortstop has found a groove at the plate with a .458 (11-24) average in seven games during the club's recent roadtrip. Tejada has hit safely in 17 of his last 22 games, a stretch that began on April 19 in just his ninth career Triple-A game. Since then, he holds the International League's third-highest average (.377, 29-77) with 12 runs scored. Tejada has also played stellar defense, with just four errors in 129 total changes.
HARD HITTING HESSMAN: Time for your weekly Mike Hessman update. The slugger continued his torrid start with the Bisons with nine hits, two home runs and
10 RBI this past week. Hessman enters play on Thursday with a seven-game hit streak, over which he has averaged .333 (9-27). The former IL MVP leads the circuit in almost every power category, including RBI (38), slugging percentage (.648), total bases (79) and extra-base hits (23). He is also tied for the League lead in home runs (10) and is second in doubles (13). Hessman has also maintained a solid .295 batting average, giving him an OPS of 1.003.
HITTING WITH PRIDE: No other batter in the International League has had more at-bats than Bisons' OF Jason Pridie (138). He's made good use of them too, hitting in 11 of his last 12 games and 18 of his last 20 contests. Pridie leads the Bisons with 41 hits, third-best in the IL. He's especially good at getting the Herd attack going. The Bisons' lead-off hitter is hitting .414 (12-29) in the first inning and 309 (17-55) when leading off a frame.
CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS www.CharlotteKnights.com
EMBREE JOINS KNIGHTS: On Tuesday the White Sox signed LHP Alan Embree to a minor league contract and assigned him to Charlotte. Embree, 40, did not appear in a game with the Boston Red Sox this season before being designated for assignment on 5/1. Embree has posted a 4.59 ERA (395 ER/774.0 IP) in 882 relief appearances with Cleveland (1992-96), Atlanta (1997-98), San Francisco (1999-2001), the White Sox (2001), San Diego (2002, '06), Boston (2002-2005), New York-AL (2005), Oakland (2007-08) and Colorado (2009).
STOP! THIEF!: INF Brent Lillibridge did it again last night, stealing another base which brings his total to 16. His 16 steals are the second highest total in the IL as he trails leader Indianapolis' Jose Tabata by only one. Lillibridge has stolen a base in five of his last seven games. The Knights infielder is on pace to steal 60 bases this season. As a team the Knights have 42 stolen bases, the third highest total in the League.
GOING...GOING...GONE: Knights catcher Tyler Flowers hit a solo home run last night. The Knights catcher has now hit a home run in three consecutive games, including two on May 10 vs. Lehigh Valley. He is the only Knights player to hit a home run in consecutive games and just the second to hit two homers in a single game. Flowers is tied for second in the IL in home runs. This is the first time in his career in which he has hit a home run in three straight games during the regular season. He did hit a home run in three straight games twice during the 2008 Arizona Fall League.
COLUMBUS CLIPPERS www.ClippersBaseball.com
DUNCAN FINDING MVP FORM: Shelley Duncan is hitting .361 (22-61) with 4 HR and 16 RBI over his last 13 games, including five multi-hit games in his last eight. The reigning IL MVP is tied for 7th in the League in HR (6) and ranks 2nd in RBI (33). Going back even further, he is hitting .376 (32-85) with 5 HR and 22 RBI in his last 19 games. Since 4/20, he has raised his batting average 137 points to .312.
PERFECT CLIPPER: Jensen Lewis extended his scoreless innings streak as a Clipper to 21.2 with a shutout inning last night. Lewis has never allowed a run during his tenure as a Clipper, consisting of 18.2 IP in 2009 and 3.0 in 2010.
BEWARE OF THE WILDCATS: The current Columbus roster features four former Arizona Wildcats. Shelley Duncan (1999-2001), Trevor Crowe (2002-2005), Jordan Brown (2003-2005) and Jason Donald (2004-2006) all suited up in Tucson. The quartet played their first game together on 5/6 at Lehigh Valley (Columbus is 3-0 when all four play in the same game).
UNDER THE SUN: Columbus is 8-2 (.800) in day games this season, outscoring opponents by a score of 50-32. The Clippers are a perfect 4-0 on the road.
DURHAM BULLS www.DurhamBulls.com
GOING DEEP: Durham belted two more homers last night. The Bulls have a league-best 47. Division rival Charlotte is second with 33. Ryan Shealy now has homered in back-to-back games. He's the seventh Bull to do so this year, joining Hank Blalock, Joe Dillon, Dan Johnson, Jose Lobaton, Chris Richard and Justin Ruggiano.Â
SAVE AND A BEAUTY: Winston Abreu's 1-2-3 ninth last night resulted in his second save of the season, a 5-2 win over Toledo. Durham hadn't had a save since Joaquin Benoit earned one against Gwinnett on April 23.   Durham is a perfect 7-for-7 in save chances this year.Â
TOUGH ROAD: Durham is 3-4 in a stretch of 16 consecutive games against teams that currently have winning records (Scranton/WB, Toledo and Columbus). Columbus has the League's best record (22-12).
SEEKING A SOLID START: It wasn't a quality start (three earned runs or less, six innings or more), but yesterday's outing by Richard De Los Santos (2ER, 5.1 IP) certainly was a good one. On the team's current eight-game home stand (which wraps up tonight), only once did a Bulls starter have a quality start. The five starters have a 5.35 ERA (20 ER/ 33.2 innings).
GWINNETT BRAVES www.GwinnettBraves.com
BARBARO BRINGING IT: G-Braves DH/1B Barbaro Canizares extended his season-high hitting streak to 10 games in last night's 6-0 loss against Pawtucket. He went
2-for-4 in the game, notching his fourth multi-hit game during the stretch. The Cuban-native has raised his batting average from .241 to a team-high .301 during the season-best hitting streak. The streak would be at 11 games, but stats from the suspended 5/8 game in which Gwinnett leads Syracuse 4-2 in the top of the 5th will not count until that game is completed on 6/17 at Coolray Field (Canizares is 2-for-3 in that game). Canizares already holds the franchise-record hitting streak, going 15 consecutive contests with a hit in 2009.
REYNOSO STRUGGLING: In losing his last start, a 7-0 decision at the hands of opposing pitcher Stephen Strasburg and his Syracuse Chiefs, Ryne Reynoso surpassed former G-Braves pitchers Tony Armas Jr. and Jo-Jo Reyes (who went their first 6 starts without a win) for a dubious record. In dropping his last start, the Idaho-native became the first Gwinnett pitcher to go his first 7 starts without earning a win. Reynoso's unfortunate mark dates back to his only start for Gwinnett in 2009 - a 10-1 loss to Charlotte on 9/5/09.
MARTINEZ BACK ON TRACK: Since being claimed off waivers by Atlanta from Florida and then being assigned to Gwinnett on Opening Day, reliever Cristhian Martinez has overcome yielding at least 2 R in four of his first six appearances for Gwinnett (9.2 IP, 9 R). In four appearances since that span, Martinez has allowed just
1 R/ER in 10.1 IP while striking out 11.
INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS www.IndyIndians.com
SLUGGING 17: 3B Pedro Alvarez led all of professional baseball with 17 RBI in nine games from April 30 to May 9, while OF Jose Tabata also led all major and minor league batters with 18 runs scored in 10 games from April 28 to May 9. During Alvarez's RBI-tear, the Indians' third baseman batted .323 (11-for-34) with two doubles, a triple, three home runs and a .400 on-base percentage, while Tabata batted an eye-popping .429 (18-for-42) with 23 total bases, eight steals and an astounding .500 on-base percentage during his streak. Los Angeles Dodgers' OF Andre Either ranked second in all of baseball behind Alvarez's 17 runs driven in with 15 RBI over nine games, while the Double-A Binghamton (NY) Mets' Kirk Nieuwenhuis ranked second with 17 runs scored during Tabata's streak. Tabata also leads all of Triple-A Baseball with 17 steals so far this season (4th in professional baseball).
CATCHING ON: Through May 12, catchers Luke Carlin and Erik Kratz have not only helped lead the Indianapolis pitching staff to the second-best ERA in the International League during the month of May (3.54), but both players have made significant contributions offensively of late as well. Kratz has recorded a hit in each of his last seven games played, posting a .462 batting average (12-for-26) to go along with six doubles and six RBI, to see his batting average improve from .188 to .310, while in his last nine games, Carlin is batting .440 (11-for-25) with five runs scored and six RBI. During his eight game tear, Carlin has posted four multiple-hit efforts and has upped his season batting average to .381.
LET'S GO STREAKING: Three Indians' batters, C Erik Kratz, OF Brandon Moss and INF/OF Neil Walker, have each put together impressive offensive streaks of late. Kratz has recorded a hit in each of his last seven games, hitting .462 (12-for-26) with six doubles and six RBI from April 28 to May 12. Walker has posted a seven-game hitting streak from May 6 to May 12, during which time the switch hitter has batted .323 (10-for-31) with five runs, five doubles, one triple, one home run, four RBI and one steal, while Moss has also gone on a seven-game streak from May 6 to May 12, hitting .360 (9-for-25) with six runs scored, three doubles, four walks and three stolen bases.
UP TO THE TASK: From April 23 to May 12, the Indians' bullpen has posted fantastic numbers as Indianapolis relievers have combined for a 2.83 ERA (18 ER in 57.1 IP) in those contests. The 'pen has earned two wins, recorded nine saves and struck out 51 total batters, while having allowed only 40 hits and 29 walks. Of the nine players to pitch out of the Indians' bullpen during the streak, five have held opponents scoreless: Vinnie Chulk (4.1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 5 SO), Mike Dubee (1.0 IP, 0 H, 2 BB), Erik Kratz (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB), Wil Ledezma (7.2 IP, 1 H, 5 BB, 10 SO) and Justin Thomas (6.2, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 SO).
LEHIGH VALLEY IRONPIGS www.IronPigsBaseball.com
WORD TO THE WISE: OF Dewayne Wise has hit in 9 of his last 10 GS (14-40, .350-1-2, 9 2B, 3B) and, in his last 13 G, is batting .333-1-2 (17-51, 9 2B, 2 3B). He has
7 2B in his last 7 G and leads the Pigs with 18 extra base hits (9 2B, 4 3B, 3 HR). His 4 3B leads the International League.
'ONE' IS THE LONELIEST...: With the IronPigs come-from-behind 6-5 victory last night, LHV improved to just 3-11 (.214) in one-run games -- which ranks last in the IL. Lehigh Valley has played four consecutive one run-games (1-3) and their 14 total on the season is the most in the IL. The 'Pigs also started the season with five consecutive one-run games, going just 1-4 in those contests. Thanks to the 11 one-run losses, Lehigh Valley has lost their 19 games by only a combined 41 runs.
DO THE MATH!: RHP Scott Mathieson -- now 5-for-5 in save opportunities -- has not allowed a R or a BB in his last 8 G (9.0 IP, 6 H, 13 K). He started this season with 7.0 scoreless innings in 4 G (1-0, SV, 0.00) and has allowed just 1 R in his first 13 G (16.2 IP, 5-5 in SV opps.). On 4/15 vs. Rochester, the hard-throwing prospect earned the first LHV save of '10-- after the pen collectively blew the first 4 opportunities. Mathieson also notched the first LHV win (4/11 @ Syracuse).
HOT HITTING OUTFIELDERS: OF Rich Thompson went 2-for-4 last night to extend his hitting streak to an IronPigs season high 10 games. Over that span Thompson is hitting .400 (16-40)-0-3, 2 3B, 4 SB, 5 R for the 'Pigs. Thompson, who started the season on Manager Dave Huppert's bench, has hit .356-0-9 in 73 AB since being inserted into the starting lineup nine games into the season. Mike Cervenak owns the longest hitting streak in Lehigh Valley history with an 18-game streak from 5/16-6/3/08.
OF John Mayberry, who missed the last 4 games with a swollen left ankle, uncorked a ninth-inning grand slam Wednesday that erased a three-run deficit and lifted the IronPigs to a 6-5 victory. The grand slam was the first by an IronPigs player since Andy Tracy hit on one August 13 of last season against Louisville's Ben Jukich. LHV is 1-4 in its 5 G w/o Mayberry in '10 (avg just 3.2 R/G).
LOUISVILLE BATS www.BatsBaseball.com
TERRERO'S BARRELIN' UP: OF Luis Terrero, who was demoted to Double-A Carolina on 4/18 after getting only 8 AB in Louisville, is taking full advantage of his recent return call. Since being transferred back to Louisville on 4/30, he has hit in all 7 games played, including being 3-3 in pinch-hit appearances. In those seven games, he is hitting .600 (12-20) with a double, 3 HR and 10 RBI. All 10 of his RBI and all three home runs have come in his last 3 games. Tuesday night, he recorded the first 5-hit game for Louisville since Ryan Hanigan did it on 8/6/08 vs. Toledo. He also recorded his first 5-hit game since 4/8/04 when he was at Triple-A Tucson. In that game he went 5-6 with a double and a home run vs. Tacoma. Terrero has also hit a home run in three straight games, tying a streak he had with Class-A Missoula back in 2000.
SWEET 400: Tuesday night's 11-0 win over Buffalo marked Rick Sweet's 400th career win as manager of the Louisville Bats. His record of 400-350 makes him the all-time winningest manager is Louisville history. His 1,449 career wins as a Minor League manager also rank 5th on the all-time active list.
OFFENSE ON FIRE: With an 11-0 win Tuesday night, the Bats have now scored double digit runs in 4 of their last 9 games. In their last 10 games they are batting .358 (131-366) and have raised their team batting average to .260 (293-1126), which ranks 8th in the IL. Before their recent 10-game hot streak, they ranked last in the IL in hitting. Amazingly, 45-percent of their hits on the season have come in their last 10 games. On the season, they have scored 166 runs, which is good for 5.03 per game. In their last 9 games they have scored 91 runs for an average of 10.1, meaning 55-percent of their run production on the season has come in their last 9 games.
SWEET's 16's:Â This past week, the Bats scored 16 runs on back-to-back nights (5/7-5/8) to combine for 32 runs in two games. The 32 runs in back-to-back games are the most in franchise history and surpasses the previous high of 27, which was accomplished on 6/20 and 6/21 in 1987. On 6/20 they lost 16-8 at Denver and then followed that with a 19-11 win, combining for 27 runs.
NORFOLK TIDES www.NorfolkTides.com
STREAKING ALL THE WAY TO BALTIMORE: With a hit on Tuesday, Corey Patterson upped his hitting streak to 11 games, over which he batted .444 (20-for-45) with two stolen bases, two RBI and six runs scored. Patterson matched Norfolk's longest hitting streak this year, an 11-game stretch by Rhyne Hughes that was accomplished over Hughes' first 11 games of the season. However, Patterson may never get a chance to extend his streak to 12 games, as the 30-year-old outfielder had his contract selected by Baltimore on Wednesday.
THIS IS BIRDLAND: When Nolan Reimold is officially added to Norfolk's roster later this week, he will be the 11th different player to have played for both Norfolk and Baltimore this season. Joining Reimold are pitchers Brad Bergesen, Alberto Castillo, Jim Johnson, Kam Mickolio, Alfredo Simon and Koji Uehara, infielders Rhyne Hughes and Justin Turner, and outfielders Lou Montanez and Corey Patterson. In addition to those 11 players, the O's have four other players (Matt Albers, Jason Berken, Dave Hernandez and Matt Wieters) who played with Norfolk last season, as well as Ty Wigginton, who came up with Norfolk in 2001-02 when the Tides were affiliated with the New York Mets.
WHAT A RELIEF: The Tides have several relievers pitching fantastically of late. Closer Frank Mata has not allowed a run over his last six appearances, registering three saves while allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five in 6.2 innings. Armando Gabino ranks among IL relievers in opposing batting average (T-2nd, .143) and fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings pitched (2nd, 7.07). Ross Wolf has posted a 2.89 ERA in 11 games this season, while opposing batters are hitting just .050 (1-for-20) against Dennis Sarfate.
PAWTUCKET RED SOX www.PawSox.com
GOING FOR A THREEPEAT: The Pawtucket Red Sox - who have currently won back-to-back games for just the third time all season (and for the first time in more than three weeks) - bid to make it three straight for the first time this year when they play the finale of their 4-game set against the Gwinnett Braves today at 12:05 p.m. at McCoy Stadium. With a victory today, the PawSox (up 2-1 in the series) can also win a series outright for the first time since ending last season by taking 2 of 3 in Syracuse. Pawtucket is 0-3-6 in their first nine series this season. Dating back to last season, the Sox have won only 2 of their last 32 series. The last time the Sox were victorious in a 4-game set came when they won 3 of 4 in Durham last June 19-22. They can finally accomplish that feat again with a win this afternoon.
OPPOSITES ATTRACT: Pawtucket was 19-14 after 33 games last year (May 14) and in 2nd-place, 4 GB. They are 14-19 thus far this season and in 4th-place, 6 GB.
CAMERON DIAZ: Figured that name would grab your attention! But no, the famous actress has not been hanging out at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. However, Boston Red Sox OF Mike Cameron is indeed with Pawtucket on an injury rehab assignment. Cameron, who has been on Boston's disabled list since April 19 with a lower abdominal strain, went 1-for-3 as the DH on Monday and 1-for-3 as the CF on Tuesday in games vs. Gwinnett. He was off Wednesday but is expected back in the PawSox line-up on both Thursday and Friday at McCoy. Cameron, 37, is hitting .233 in 11 games with the Red Sox. Coming into this season he had a career average of .250 in 1,829 big league games with 265 HR and 926 RBI playing for the White Sox, Cincinnati, Seattle, the Mets, San Diego, and Milwaukee. He is one of just 15 Major League players to ever hit 4 HR in the same game as he accomplished that feat on May 2, 2002 while playing for Seattle. In that historic game at the White Sox he belted two solo homers in both the 1st and 3rd-innings. In his final at-bat that night he drove a ball that was caught at the wall falling just short in his bid to become the only player in MLB history to hit 5 HR in the same game.
ROCHESTER RED WINGS www.RedWingsBaseball.com
HOT WING: Third baseman Danny Valencia has a 16-game hitting streak batting .373 (25-for-67) with seven doubles and 12 RBI. Valencia has seven-multi hit games during this 16-game hitting streak. Valencia has seen his batting average climb from .152 to .283 during this 16-game streak.
STREAKY WINGS: Valencia's 16-game hitting streak is tied for the 10th longest by a Red Wing since 1993. Here's a look at the other hitting streaks:
Jason Pridie (16-games)Â 2009Â Â Â Â Â Luis Rodriguez (19-games) 2004
Darryl Brinkley (16-games) 2002Â Â Â Â Â Â Damon Buford (19-games)Â Â 1993 & 1994
Jason Tyner (17-games)Â Â Â 2006Â Â Mark Smith (20-games)Â Â Â 1993
Chris Heintz (18-games)Â Â Â Â 2005Â Â Â Â Â Â Jason Pridie (21-games)Â Â 2008
Wayne Kirby (18-games)Â Â 2000Â Â Â Randy Ruiz (24-games)Â Â Â 2008
JUST WIN BABY: Tuesday night's win by RHP Rob Delaney was his fifth win (5-1 record) of the season (17 appearances) which ties him with Durham starter Jeremy Hellickson for the IL lead in wins. Delaney is just five wins away from becoming only the fourth relief pitcher to record 10 wins in a season since 1976 (RHP Julio DePaula 12-5 record in 2007, RHP Willie Eyre 10-5 record in 2005 and RHP Dave Johnson 11-5 record in 1976). Delaney's five wins currently leads the team. If Delaney remains the team leader in wins it would only be the third time a Red Wings reliever has led the team in wins since 1960 (DePaula 12-5 in 2007 and RHP Bob Tiefenauer shared the team lead in wins (11) with RHP Willard Schmidt in 1960).
BAD STARTS: The Red Wings starting pitchers have really struggled the last 10 games, going 0-6 with a 10.42 ERA. In 42.1 innings of work, the starters have allowed
52 runs (49 earned) on 58 hits while walking 34 and striking out 27. Opponents are batting .335 (58-for-173) against the starters during this 10-game stretch. For the season the starters have just a 5-16 record with a 5.89 ERA.
SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE YANKEES www.SWBYankees.com
STEPPING UP AND KEEPING IT ROLLING: With the departure of Ivan Nova to the big club, Thursday's starter Jason Hirsh has become the unquestioned ace of the staff winning his last three starts to even his record at 3-3 on the season. After beginning the year at 0-3 with a 5.09 ERA, the right hander is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA allowing just three earned runs over his last 20.0 innings. Run support has still been hard to come by for Hirsh who has gotten just eight runs of support when he has been on the mound in 37.1 innings, for an average of 1.3 runs of support per start. Half of that total (four) came in his most recent start at Durham on May 8.   The right-hander has been the stingiest starter in the IL this season giving up just 21 hits in 129 AB for a .163 average against.
MAKE SURE YOU GRAB AN UPDATED ROSTER: Over the last 11 days the Yankees have been busy moving players in and out of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre clubhouse and up to the big leagues. Mark Melancon was the first to head to New York leaving SWB on May 2 and returning to the "Baby Bombers" on May 4. Melancon rejoined the SWB Yankees in Durham and was replaced by Greg Golson on the Triple-A roster and the outfielder headed to Yankee Stadium for a trip to "The Show." Romulo Sanchez was the next to move up on May 7, joining the Yankees in Boston and replacing Golson on the 25 man roster. Kevin Russo got his first call to join the Yankees at Fenway Park on May 8.  Right-hander Ivan Nova was the next to join the big club on its recent trip to Detroit on May 10. Sanchez was optioned back to SWB on May 11 and will rejoin the Triple-A rotation on Friday in the opening game of the four game series at PNC Field vs. Charlotte. Golson headed back to the majors May 12 joining the Yankees in Detroit for NY's split doubleheader on Wednesday against the Tigers. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was short handed in their Wednesday doubleheader against Columbus with a pair of key components still on the SWB roster but not available for action. Both Jonathan Albaladejo and Juan Miranda were in Detroit on Wednesday waiting to be activated for the Yankees spilt twin bill against the Tigers, but the moves never came. So while still on the Triple-A roster, neither was in a position to help out the Baby Bombers sitting and waiting 523 miles away from PNC Field.
WINNING THE CLOSE ONES AND LOSING THE BLOWOUTS: The Yankees run production in 2010 and overall record hardly match up. Through 32 games this season Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has been outscored 148-130. 20 of the Yankees 32 games this season have been decided by three runs or less, in which the team is 14-6.  The Yankees run differential in its 18 wins is 41 runs for an average margin of victory of 2.3 runs per game. SWB's run differential in its 14 losses is 65 runs for an average loss of 4.6 runs per game. Â
THE MAGNIFICANT SEVEN: On Monday night Josh Schmidt became the sixth different SWB Yankee to make his Triple-A debut. On Wednesday night it was Justin Snyder's turn becoming the seventh to debut with SWB.   The duo joins Matt Cusick, Zach McAllister, Jesus Montero, Eduardo Nunez and Tim Norton, who had previously not played in a regular season game above Double-A. Noel Castillo is on SWB's active and will increase the total to eight when he sees his first game action.
SYRACUSE CHIEFS www.SyracuseChiefs.com
STRASBURG UPDATE: Stephen Strasburg has thrown in two games for the Chiefs and has won both of them. Â Syracuse has not been scored upon in either of Strasburg's starts. Â The first-year professional has faced 39 batters in a Syracuse uniform and has retired 35 of them. Â Strasburg, who threw six no-hit innings, flirted Wednesday night with the first Syracuse no-hitter since Leo Estrella's perfect game 10 years ago. Â Norfolk broke the no-hitter up with a Josh Bell single against Drew Storen in the seventh.
BEST OF THE BUNCH: Syracuse's Chase Lambin leads the Washington organization with a .350 average while Stephen Strasburg holds a 1.06 overall ERA, tops in the farm system. Chiefs right-hander Joel Peralta, with eight, has three more saves than anyone else in the Nationals' chain.  The Chiefs have the second-best batting average (.262) and team ERA (3.90) in the Nats' system.
NO K: Syracuse outfielder Kevin Mench enters play today with 13 walks as compared to four strikeouts, the best ratio on the team. Â Mench struck out for the first time this season on April 26, in his 17th game. Â The 32-year-old outfielder is second in Minor League Baseball with a 29.75 TPA/KÂ (plate appearances per strikeout)Â ratio. Â He's second only to Las Vegas' Luis Figueroa whose ratio stands at 95.00.
TOLEDO MUD HENS www.MudHens.com
BONUS BASEBALL: Entering their series with the Norfolk Tides last Thursday, the Toledo Mud Hens were one of only two teams that had not yet played an extra-inning game. The other team, coincidentally, was the Tides. Sure enough, Friday night's game went 12 innings, with Norfolk winning 3-2 on a walk-off home run by Josh Bell.
TWO-DAY ATTACK: The Mud Hens remain undefeated on Mondays and Tuesdays (5-0 each day). The rest of the week, Toledo has gone 8-16, including 0-4 on Wednesdays.
TOLEDO'S OWN AMERICAN IDOL: Toledo native Crystal Bowersox, one of the final three contestants on American Idol, will sing the National Anthem before Friday night's game against Indianapolis.
