Durham Bulls News Release
Durham, NC - Dan Johnson's two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning capped a three-run outburst that was all the Bulls would need as they knocked off the Toledo Mud Hens, 6-1 on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Bulls split the series 2-2 and the eight-game homestand, 4-4.
Durham got it going immediately when Desmond Jennings led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, then moved to third on Elliot Johnson's sacrifice bunt. Joe Dillon singled to score Jennings, then scored one out later on Dan Johnson's towering homer to right field.
The Bulls added another run in the second on a fielder's choice scoring Rashad Eldridge, a tally in the third on Alvin Colina's RBI-double scoring Dan Johnson, and a final run in the fifth inning when Colina doubled in Johnson again.
LHP Carlos Hernandez (3-1) picked up the victory holding the Mud Hens to one run on three hits and one walk while striking out five. RHP L.J. Gagnier took the loss allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits in three and two-thirds inning.s
The Bulls hit the road to face the Columbus Clippers in a four-game series beginning on Friday night in Ohio. Catch all the action with Neil Solondz on 620 AM the Buzz or www.durhambulls.com.
