Jonathan Bermudez Named Triple A West Pitcher of the Week

September 20, 2021 - Triple-A West League (AAA West) - Sugar Land Skeeters News Release

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - Minor League Baseball announced Monday that Sugar Land Skeeters left-hander Jonathan Bermudez was named Triple A West Pitcher of the Week.

In his lone start of the week, Bermudez allowed just one hit and struck out eight through six scoreless innings last Friday against the Albuquerque Isotopes, leading the Skeeters to a 2-1 victory. Bermudez matched his season high in innings pitched in the outing.

Bermudez was promoted to the Skeeters from Double A Corpus Christi on Aug. 18 and has gone 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA (4 ER/24.2 IP) in five games (four starts) since the promotion. He's second of Houston Astros minor leaguers with 136 strikeouts on the season and his 4.69 strikeout-to-walk ratio is the highest of any Astros minor leaguer with at least 45 innings pitched.

The Astros selected Bermudez in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft from Southeastern University (Lakeland, Fla.). He becomes the second Skeeters player to earn Triple A West Pitcher of the Week honors, joining right-hander JP France, who won the award on Aug. 30.

Tickets for the rest of the Skeeters' 2021 regular season - including the Triple A Final Stretch - are on sale and can be purchased by visiting sugarlandskeeters.com/tickets.
