Tacoma Rainiers News Release
El Paso, TX - The 2021 Triple-A West Champion Tacoma Rainiers (73-46) won for the eighth time in nine games on Monday night, and have also won eight of nine on the road following a 7-2 smothering of the El Paso Chihuahuas (45-74) at Southwest University Park.
Tacoma took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, once Jantzen Witte led off with a walk and got to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Kevin Padlo (3-for-4) made it an unearned run with an RBI single to left field.
Jose Marmolejos doubled to begin the sixth, and wasn't on base long. A batter later Padlo smacked his seventh homer in his last 13 Triple-A games to make the score 3-0.
The Rainiers blew the game wide open with a four-run frame in the eighth. Padlo and Brian O'Keefe led off with a pair of walks and Jose Godoy loaded the bases with a single. Dillon Thomas drove in two runs with a double to left field, and Luis Liberato (2-for-4) drove in two more with a single to center for a 7-0 lead.
Patrick Kivlehan, who played for Tacoma in 2015 (123 games) and 2016 (44 games) broke up the shutout with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth.
In a bullpen game for Tacoma, Darin Gillies (2.0 IP), Penn Murfee (1.0 IP), Matt Festa (2.0 IP), lefty Aaron Fletcher (2.0 IP) and Justin Grimm (1.0 IP) all enjoyed scoreless outings.
Tacoma will conclude the regular season on Tuesday with a 5:35 PT first pitch at El Paso. The 10-game Triple-A "Final Stretch" will then begin on Thursday at Round Rock, a five-game series.
