
Joliet Slips Past Crushers

Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, OHIO. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, took an early lead against the Joliet Slammers but after losing the lead the Crushers couldn't get a timely hit as they fell in extra innings by the score of 5-3.
Lake Erie scored two runs off of Slammers starter Taylor Goshen in the first inning. An RBI triple by Dane Hutcheon and an RBI single by Joel McKeithan gave the Crushers a 2-0 lead.
The Slammers got a run back in the third when London Lindley reached on an error by McKeithan and later scored on a single by L.J. Kalawaia. The unearned run was charged to starter Oriel Caicedo who took a no decision.
Joliet took the lead in the sixth inning when Danny Zardon hit a two-run home run off of Caicedo. The Crushers lefty finished with a season-high 6.2 innings and was charged with three runs (two earned).
Lake Erie knotted things up in the sixth when McKeithan tripled to score Aaron Hill who had three hits in the game.
The game would remain tied even though the Crushers had opportunities to score in the eighth, ninth, and tenth innings. Louis Cohen and Seth Lucio came out of the bullpen and helped send the game to extras.
In the 11th inning with international rules in effect, Kalawaia began the inning at second against Branden Nunn (1-3) who struck out the first batter. The Crushers then went to Kent Hasler who later allowed an RBI single to Trenton Hill. Chaz Meadows followed with an infield single of his own and the Slammers led 5-3.
The Crushers got the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the 11th but Isaac Sanchez closed it out for his eighth save of the year. Andrew Zellner (2-1) got the win for Joliet. Lake Erie left eight men on base in the game.
The Slammers improve to 45-34 with the win and move three games up on the Crushers for first place. Lake Erie drops to 42-37 with the loss.
Micah Beyer (1-1) gets the start for the Crushers in game two while Liam O'Sullivan (8-4) goes for Joliet. Game time is 7:05 PM.
