O'FALLON, MO--The River City Rascals saw their modest three-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night, losing the middle game of their series against the Southern Illinois Miners by a score of 9-3. The Rascals left 13 men on base in the loss, which evened the series at 1-1.

The Miners jumped out to the 2-0 lead on a solo homer by Nolan Earley and an RBI single from Kurt Wertz, Jr. in the second inning. They then then struck for four in the top of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run blast by Chance Shepard to left field to go up 6-0. The Rascals put three on the board themselves in the bottom of the frame, on a two-out home run by Zach Lavy and back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Kevin Suarez and JD Hearn. However, the Rascals left the bases loaded to end the inning. The Miners tacked on three insurance runs to close out the game.

Both Lavy and Braxton Martinez finished with three hits on the night for the Rascals.

Kurt Heyer (7-6) earned the win for the Miners, despite allowing 11 hits. He allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings, striking out four. Justin Garcia (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in 4 1/3 innings, walking four and striking out two.

The Rascals (41-40) play the rubbermatch against the Miners (40-37) tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm CT. Dan Ludwig will make the start for the Rascals.
