EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, used a six-run fifth inning to hold on for a 13-11 win on Tuesday night at Bosse Field.

The game featured a combined 30 hits, 18 by the CornBelters. The Belters tied the contest with two runs in the fourth inning before plating a half-dozen in the next frame to take the lead for good.

Normal scored three times in the seventh inning for a cushion that proved to be valuable as the Otters tallied five runs in the bottom of the frame after the stretch to cut the margin to 13-11, but that would be the end of the game's scoring.

Andrew Godbold led the Belters' offense with a 3-for-5 evening at the plate with 4 runs batted in. Derrick Loveless was 3-for-4 with 3 runs and Justin Fletcher was 3-for-6 with a run.

Connor Root (4-1) worked five innings for the victory, giving up five runs (earned) on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Jonathan De Marte worked a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save. Tyler Beardsley (4-7) took the loss with 4 1/3 innings, surrendering 12 hits and 9 runs (8 earned) with a walk and five strikeouts.

The CornBelters (42-34) increased their Frontier League West Division lead to three games over the River City Rascals and the Southern Illinois Miners, and 3 1/2 games over the Florence Freedom with 20 games remaining.

The teams rematch at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Bosse Field as right-hander Jack Landwehr (7-3, 3.05 ERA) starts for the CornBelters while the Otters give the ball to lefty Spencer Medick (4-1, 3.11).
