JOLIET SLAMMERS (40-29) @ RIVER CITY RASCALS (52-17)

Saturday, August 6 - 7:05 p.m. CT T.R. Hughes Ballpark - O'Fallon, MO Game #70 - Road Game #38 (40-29, 21-16) RHP #38 RYNE MILLER (0-5, 5.26 ERA) vs. LHP #17 ZACH ROBERTSON (6-2, 4.06 ERA)

Last Time Out...

The River City Rascals (52-17) scored four runs in the fifth inning as they ran away from the Joliet Slammers (40-29) by a final score of 6-1 Friday night. Joash Brodin doubled in Stephen Holdren in the second inning as the Rascals grabbed a 1-0 edge. River City buried starter Brian Fowler (4-3) and the Slammers in the fifth. Danny Sawyer doubled leading off the inning and one out later moved to third on a Chris McClendon single. Doug Sanders singled Sawyer home to extend the advantage to 2-0. Former Gateway Grizzlies' star Logan Parker put the nail in the coffin with a three run shot and it was 5-0 River City. Hector Pellot hit a solo homer in the sixth, but River City responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a couple of Chris Pack wild pitches. Josh Lowey (7-2) went seven innings to pick up the win while Fowler took the loss.

For Starters...

Ryne Miller faces his former team today and is coming off two consecutive rough starts, both against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Control has been an issue in recent weeks as he walked five batters in only three and two thirds innings on July 31 against Traverse City. Consequently, he gave up five runs but only two of them were earned in the loss. Miller is 0-2 with a 4.36 ERA with the Slammers in six starts. His first four starts were all quality starts but he received a no-decision in each of them. The Slammers traded their 2012 first round pick in the Frontier League draft to River City for Miller on June 27. Miller advanced as high as Double A in the Red Sox organization. He has a career 4.52 ERA in minor league baseball over four seasons.

Mystifying Maunus...

Kyle Maunus is last on the team in batting average as he's only hitting .205 on the year. But he is second on the squad in runs scored (40), home runs (12), RBI (33), and walks (29).

Outfoxed...

David Fox leads the Slammers with a .419 batting average in 43 AB's with men in scoring position.

Putting the ball in play...

Catcher Ben Hewett is the only Slammer who doesn't have more K's than BB's. He has 11 of each.

The best of the best...

The Slammers are tied with Southern Illinois for the best ERA in the entire Frontier League at 3.62. In addition, they've held opponents to a league low .238 batting average. The bullpen has been especially strong, compiling an ERA of 2.82.

#Winning...

The Slammers are a season high 4.5 games up in the East Division.

They've held first place by themselves since the end of play on July 8th. Before then they had not held first place by themselves all year.

Road Warriors...

The Slammers have won five of their last six series on the road. In addition, they've swept three of those series as they swept Gateway last series, Lake Erie July 27-29, and Normal right before the All-Star break. Joliet's record of 21-16 on the road is the best in the East Division and third best in the Frontier League.

Aggression...

Joliet's hitters like to swing the bat as evidenced by their league low 231 walks.

Leading after six...

The Slammers are almost unbeatable with a record of 28-1 when leading after six innings. However they are 5-26 when trailing after six.

The team triple crown...

Erik Lis leads the Slammers in batting average (.314), Home Runs (16) and RBI (60).
