River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, Mo. - Joliet jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings and the Rascals' pitching staff allowed season-highs with 16 runs on 20 hits en-route to a 16-1 loss.
River City's scheduled starting pitcher Zach Robertson was scratched from his start after a visit to the hospital early in the morning with what would be a stomach virus.
Wayde Kitchens was forced to make a start on just two days rest and the Slammers (41-29) jumped him for three runs in the first before he was removed for Jason Pankau to start the second.
Pankau had pitched three innings three days previously as well and allowed six runs without retiring a batter after the Rascals stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the first.
The offense could never get it going against the former Rascal Ryne Miller (1-5) who picked up his first win this season in five innings of work.
River City used seven pitchers on the night including shortstop Bobby Burk who struck out two in one inning of work.
