
Johnson Beats Buzzer to Lead Vipers Past Jam

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA - Bakersfield Jam guard Trey Johnson hit a fall-away jumper at the buzzer to lead the Jam past the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 116-114 tonight at the Jam Events Center.
Johnson finished with 20 points and 20 assists while hitting 8-of-19 shots.
Craig Winder hit a long three-pointer from the left wing to tie the game 114-114 with 10 seconds left before Johnson hit the game-winner.
Brian Butch hit a pair of three-pointers during an 18-4 Jam (11-28) run late in the fourth to take a 107-105 lead after being down 101-89 with 5:50 remaining.
With the Vipers (27-11) up 8-4 3:09 into the game after an Ernest Scott lay-up, the Jam went on a 14-0 run until Winder hit a driving lay-up with 3:42 left in the first quarter. Reece Gaines had seven points during the run. The Vipers responded with a 7-0 run to get within 18-15 1:16 later.
A Winder lay-up brought the Vipers within 35-32 with 6:19 left in the second quarter, but the Jam responded with a 9-2 run to take a 44-34 lead 3:17 later.
Kenny Hasbrouck hit a lay-up to give the Vipers their first lead since the first quarter at 63-62 as the Vipers opened the third on a 22-9 run over the first 6:44. The Vipers outscored the Jam 41-21 in the third quarter to take an 82-74 lead.
Hasbrouck finished with a career-high 29 points while hitting 12-of-20 shots. Winder scored 28 points to go with a career-high nine rebounds, five assists and a career-high tying five steals.
The Jam were led in scoring by Will Daniels who scored 28 points. Butch finished with 18 points and 19 rebounds.
The Vipers return to action on Tuesday against the Austin Toros at 7:30 p.m. at State Farm Arena. Fans will have the opportunity to compete in a trivia contest to meet Yao Ming, who will be in attendance at Wednesday's game. It's $1 Menu night, meaning $1 hot dogs, popcorn and soda starting when the doors open at 6:30.
