New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds were unable to keep the Idaho Stampede off the glass all night as the team dropped its seventh straight game, losing 103-88. The T-Birds were outrebounded 61-35 in the game.

Keith McLeod once again led the way for Albuquerque, scoring 29 points and dishing out 9 assists. Antoine Agudio added 17 and Shane Edwards chipped in 14 for the Thunderbirds.

The T-Birds trailed 20-17 with 2:45 remaining in the first quarter, but the Stampede went on a 16-2 run spanning the end of the first and beginning of the second quarter to take a commanding 17 points lead. Albuquerque battled back, however, and a McLeod three with six seconds remaining in the second quarter cut the Stampede lead to four heading into halftime (50-46).

Albuquerque cut the lead to one on a layup from Sasha Cuic with 10:02 in the third quarter, but that was as close as the team would get as Idaho eventually pulled away for the 15 point win.

Trey Gilder scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in his Thunderbirds debut.

Albuquerque shot 39.0% from the field, while Idaho connected on 46.2% of its shots. The Stampede outscored the T-Birds on second chance points, 22-7.

Joe Dabbert led the way for Idaho with 26 points. Bryson McKenzie came off the bench to post 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Stampede. Lance Allred (17 points and 11 rebounds) and Mildon Ambres (12 points and 10 rebounds) also posted double doubles for the visitors.

During halftime, Scott Hensen of Moriarty connected on a half court shot to win a $5,000 Bottleless Water System from Aquasense.

The team will be in action again on March 10 when they host Ft. Wayne Mad Ants at Tingley Coliseum. Call 505-265-3865 for more information on how to bring your group out to the game for as low as $4 per person.
