Portland Beavers News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Chris Johnson homered for the second straight night and scored twice as the Round Rock Express defeated the Portland Beavers for the third consecutive game, taking Tuesday night's contest 2-1 at The Dell Diamond.
Brian Bogusevic recorded a pair of hits and former Beaver Yordany Ramirez tallied an RBI double for the Express (52-66), who will go for the four-game sweep Wednesday night.
Express starter Mark McLemore (4-8) gave up just one run over six innings on four hits and three walks to snap a personal four-game losing streak.
Valentino Pascucci had two hits and Russ Adams supplied a fourth-inning RBI single for the Beavers (50-68), who tied a season-high with their fourth straight road loss.
Josh Banks (6-5) rebounded from his rough outing at Albuquerque on Thursday with six innings of two-run ball in which he allowed six hits and walked none while fanning four, though he took his second straight loss.
Back-to-back doubles by Johnson and Ramirez plated the first run of the game in the second.
The Beavers tied it with a two-out RBI single by Adams in the top of the fourth, only to give up Johnson's solo shot in the bottom half of the inning.
Portland got a pair of runners in scoring position with one out in the eighth inning but failed to push the tying run across against Casey Daigle.
Chad Paronto pitched a perfect ninth for his 18th save of the season.
The Beavers will try to avoid a sweep by the Express Wednesday night at 5:05 p.m. (Pacific).
NOTES: Before the game, catcher Michael Collins was transferred to Class AA San Antonio, where he began the 2009 season ... neither team has recorded a sweep of the other in the five seasons since the Express moved from Edmonton in 2005.
