Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - One night after watching his team give up 15 runs in their second straight loss to the Express, right-hander Josh Banks did his best to stop Round Rock's offense.
Banks (6-5) scattered six hits over six innings Tuesday, tossing in four strikeouts without a walk over six innings. But those six hits alone were enough for the Express, which picked up its third consecutive win, 2-1, at The Dell Diamond.
Four of the hits allowed by Banks went for extra bases, including Chris Johnson's fourth home run in three games that proved to be the game-winner.
Johnson, Yordany Ramirez and Jason Smith all tossed in doubles and starter Mark McLemore (4-8) snapped a four-game losing streak, allowing one run on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts over six innings.
Less than 24 hours after hammering out 17 hits, the Express jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Johnson and Ramirez roped back-to-back doubles with one down in the second inning.
Portland picked up its lone run on a Russell Adams RBI-single to center in the fourth, but Johnson snapped the 1-1 tie with a solo shot in the bottom of the frame. The homer marked the fourth in 14 at-bats for Johnson, who now has 10 home runs on the season.
Sammy Gervacio and Casey Daigle tossed two scoreless innings in relief and Chad Paronto picked up his 18th save with a hitless ninth. Paronto has not allowed a run with Round Rock over his last 17 outings (19 IP) dating back to May 25.
Tuesday's win earned Round Rock its seventh series win of the season. The club will go for the series sweep Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond. Reserved tickets are just $7 on the final day of the 'Win/Win' promotion.
