John Kelly Named Northeast League Pitcher of the Week

Lynn, MA – North Shore Spirit pitcher John Kelly was picked by SportsTicker as the Northeast League's Pitcher of the Week on Monday, June 28. It was his first honor this season

Kelly tossed a complete game shut out against the New Jersey Jackals on June 24 to earn the award. He allowed five hits and struck out 11, while walking three for his third win of the season. Kelly, who also pitched a seven-inning complete game shut out in his prior outing against Elmira, is working on a 16-inning scoreless streak. Kelly, who was an 11th round selection by the New York Mets in 1994, is playing his eighth season of professional baseball and second with the North Shore Spirit.

Kelly was chosen as the Northeast League Pitcher of the Year for the 2003 season and was honored as Pitcher of the Week four times throughout the 2003 season. He was also named to the 2003 Northeast League all-star team.

The Spirit return home on Friday, July 2 to face cross-town rivals and defending Northeast League Champs, the Brockton Rox.

July 2 is Spiderman Night at the Movies at the New Fraser Field. To celebrate the return of Peter Parker's alias to the big screen, the Spirit welcome fans of all ages to a spine-tingling night at the park. Kids in attendance will have the chance to win fantastic Spiderman Prizes, such as comic books, movies and other Spiderman themed prizes.
