
Spirit score late to down Jackals

New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ- An eighth inning rally by the North Shore Spirit, propelled them a 5-4 victory over the New Jersey Jackals.
New Jersey got ahead early in the first. John Anderson would score on an RBI double by Jackals third baseman Wilton Veras, making it a 1-0 ballgame.
The lead would change hands in the second. North Shore capitalized on control problems by New Jersey starter Mike Perkins. Perkins walked three in the inning, leading to RBI singles by Joe Hastings and Yuri Sanchez.
The Jackals would strike again in the second. Scott Goodman led off with a walk and a stolen base. Jay LaFlair then singled, scoring Goodman. Craig Conway would drive in an additional run, after grounding into a fielder's choice, with the bases loaded. Kevin Grijak added an RBI on a sacrifice fly, making it a 4-2 New Jersey lead.
North Shore would cut that lead by one in the fourth inning. With runner at first and second, and one out, Sanchez singled in his second RBI of the ball, bringing North Shore a bit closer. New Jersey starter Mike Perkins would leave the game in the fourth inning, with two outs, with an injury to his hand.
The Spirit would rally in the top of the eighth to again take the lead from the Jackals. After consecutive singles by Travis Oglesby and Rob Fischer, off reliever Fabricio Benitez, Joe Hastings, doubled scoring both runners, giving the Spirit the lead for good.
Tim Hart pitched three innings of shutout ball, and gave up only one hit. He picked up the win. Closer Ryan Bicondoa got the save by pitching a flawless ninth.
New Jersey reliever Fabricio Benitez got the loss.
Joe Hastings was 3-4 with three RBI, and two runs scored, for North Shore.
For the Jackals, Jay LaFlair was 2-3 with an RBI.
