Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Albuquerque Isotopes third baseman Joe Dillon was called up to the Florida Marlins today and is expected to make his Major League debut this afternoon in Los Angeles where the team is taking on the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

In 39 games with the Isotopes this season, Dillon, 29, was hitting .305 with a Pacific Coast League-leading 13 home runs and a team-high 31 RBI. Last season, he split time between Albuquerque and Double-A Carolina, collecting a Marlins organization-best 39 home runs with 117 RBI between the two teams. After being called up to Albuquerque on May 1, 2004 Dillon dominated the PCL, hitting .325, belting 30 homers, and earning a starting spot in the Triple-A All-Star Game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Originally drafted in 1997 by the Kansas City Royals, Dillon played in the Royals chain until 2001 when he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the Minor League Rule 5 draft. After a year in the Twins organization, the resident of Lubbock, Texas sat out the entire 2003 campaign while recuperating from back surgery. A former All-American at Texas Tech University, he spent that season serving as assistant coach for the Red Raiders baseball team before being signed as a free agent by the Marlins on March 16, 2004.

To make room for Dillon on the Florida roster, left-handed relief pitcher Jim Crowell has been designated for assignment.

The Isotopes return home on Friday, May 27 with a Memorial Day weekend that's packed with great promotions at Isotopes Park. Homestand highlights include Zooperstars! on May 27, Military Appreciation Day and notepad giveaway on May 28, and post-game fireworks on both Saturday and Sunday nights.
