Round Rock Express News Release
The Portland Beavers avoided a series sweep at the Dell Diamond on Tuesday night behind the shutout pitching of right-hander Marty McLeary, winning a 7-0 decision over Round Rock. McLeary came away with his second win of the season and his first- ever complete game shutout in eight professional seasons. McLeary retired twelve straight Round Rock hitters in a stretch from the 4th through the 8th inning.
Round Rock only had four hits, including one extra base hit on the night â a two out double in the first inning off the bat of LF Luke Scott â but McLeary wiggled out of the inning without further damage. Further, the Express only had three runners in scoring position all night.
Portland got its first two runs in the first inning on a two run homer by 1B Jon Knott, off starter and loser Chris Fussell. In the second, the Beavers scored twice on a two run single from CF Kerry Robinson, also off Fussell. Knott hit his second homer of the game, a solo shot in the 6th off reliever Jeremy Griffiths. A two run 7th for Portland capped the scoring at seven.
The Express get the day off on Wednesday and on Thursday open an eight game road trip in Tucson with an 8:30pm Central Time start. Lefty Wandy Rodriguez goes against Tucson lefty Bill Murphy.
