Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Jorge Piedra and Eddy Garabito cleared the table rather than setting it, each driving in three runs as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Omaha Royals, 8-6, on Tuesday night in front of 3,354 at Security Service Field.
Piedra went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot and Garabito went 3-for-4 and scored two runs from the two-hole. Garabito hit his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot with two outs in the eighth that gave the Sky Sox an 8-5 lead and proved to be the difference.
Aaron Guiel hit a solo home run in the first and scored on a groundout by Justin Gemoll in the third as the Royals took a 2-0 lead.
The Sky Sox scored three runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Garabito doubled home a run and then scored on another double by Jeff Baker. Ryan Shealy singled to bring home Baker with the go-ahead run. Colorado Springs added two more in the fourth when Piedra doubled with two outs to score Tom Wilson and Jeff Picker to make it 5-2.
The Royals got those runs back in the sixth. Chad Santos hit a two-run home run off reliever Alex Serrano. Jaime Jones walked with one out and went to second on a fielder's choice. Alejandro Prieto tied the score with a single to right that allowed Jones to score.
The Sky Sox reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning. Pickler led off with a single against reliever Shawn Camp (0-2) and was sacrificed to second. Piedra laced a double that drove in Pickler with the go-ahead run. Piedra was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.
Despite allowing three runs in his inning of work, Serrano (2-0) earned the win. Matt Anderson allowed a run in the ninth and had runners on first and second with one out, but got Jones to pop up and caught Adrian Brown looking at strike three to finish off his seventh save.
