Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque Isotopes third baseman Joe Dillon has gotten a base hit in his first Major League at-bat today in the fifth inning of Florida's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Dillon entered the contest in the second inning as a replacement for starting third baseman Mike Lowell, who was injured when a foul pop struck him in the face, causing facial lacerations.
The Isotopes star recorded his first Major League at-bat in the top of the fifth inning after a Juan Encarnacion single and proceeded to pull a 2-0 pitch from Jeff Weaver through a hole in the left side of the infield for his first big league hit. The ball was immediately retrieved, placed in the Marlins dugout, and will be given to Dillon after today's game.
In 39 games with the Isotopes this season, Dillon, 29, was hitting .305 with a Pacific Coast League-leading 13 home runs and a team-high 31 RBI. He was called up late yesterday evening and joined the Marlins in Los Angeles early this afternoon.
