Maurer, 32, signed with FC Dallas on Dec. 14, 2017. He has appeared in 45 matches across all competitions for the club and recorded 14 shutouts. He made his MLS debut in the 2018 home opener against Real Salt Lake on March 3. Maurer currently ranks first among starting goalkeepers with two penalty saves after facing three in 12 matches this season.
In 2020, Maurer ended the year with a 0.84 GAA and an 80.6 saves percentage, first among starting goalkeepers. He made his MLS Cup Playoffs debut for FC Dallas on Nov. 22 vs. the Portland Timbers and recorded seven saves in his debut. He saved Portland defender Jorge Villafaña's penalty kick to help FC Dallas advance to the next round of MLS Cup Playoffs.
Maurer also started in five matches for FC Dallas' USL League One affiliate, North Texas SC, during the 2019 season, conceding only three goals in 450 minutes played. He ended the season with three shutouts and was part of the team that won the inaugural USL League One title.
Maurer played all four years of collegiate soccer at the University of South Carolina, starting in every match for the Gamecocks. Prior to joining FC Dallas, Maurer spent five seasons with North American Soccer League's New York Cosmos from 2013 to 2017. He became the club's full-time starter in 2014, earning the NASL Best XI honors that season before helping New York to the NASL title in 2015 and 2016.
