Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers dropped Tuesday night's series opener against the Lancaster JetHawks 8-1 at San Manuel Stadium. The JetHawks banged out six consecutive two-out hits in a five-run third inning to take control of the contest.

Inland Empire (39-76, 16-29) took a lead in the bottom of the first against JetHawks' starter Josh James when Michael Hermosillo doubled to right center to open the frame. David Fletcher's sac bunt moved Hermosillo to third. He eventually scored when Jared Foster delivered a two-out double of his own to give the Sixers the 1-0 lead. Hermosillo's double extended his hitting-streak to nine games. James then settled in on the mound. The righty went six innings allowing seven total hits with two walks and five K's to improve to 4-0 against the Sixers this season and 9-3 overall. He has surrendered just three earned runs in 20.2 IP vs the 66ers in 2016.

Sixers' starter Jeremy Rhoades retired the first eight batters he faced in the contest but then the trouble began as Keach Ballard and Bobby Boyd each singled for Lancaster (64-50, 29-16) with two down in the third. Osvaldo Duarte and Drew Ferguson then followed with one-run and two-run doubles respectively to make it 3-1. Bryan Muniz poked a RBI single to right and Jason Martin capped the frame with an RBI triple to make it 5-1. Martin made it 6-1 in the fifth with a RBI single and Jamie Ritchie's two run-double pushed the lead to the eventual final of 8-1. Rhoades was charged with eight runs, seven earned in five frames and fell to 4-11.

The Sixers bullpen of Eric Karch, Ronnie Muck, Zach Hartman and Jordan Piche allowed just one hit and one walk with five Ks in four strong innings of relief. Hutton Moyer had a pair of singles for the Sixers' lone-multi-hit game.

The series continues Wednesday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
